Taking advantage of the recent Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, I decided to head north for a short trip filled with food and fun. 😋 I came across a recommendation for Gankeng Ancient Town, which looked stunning, so I decided to visit.
📍 Accommodation: Shenzhen Yun Valley Manli Executive Apartment (Huawei Tian'an Yun Valley Branch)
📍 Transportation: From Futian Port, take Shenzhen Metro Line 10 directly to Gangtou Station. From Exit C1, it's about a 12-15 minute walk to the apartment (you'll see the large Tian'an Yun Valley landmark and directional signs along the way).
🏖️ Environment/Facilities: Upon arriving at the apartment lobby, check-in was arranged quickly. The receptionist sent me the room password and Wi-Fi password via WeChat. The suite features a duplex design, is clean and smartly equipped, and offers an open view from the 38th floor.
➡️ After settling in and resting briefly, I started exploring for food. The plaza below the apartment is spacious, offering a wide variety of restaurants, including Chinese, Western, BBQ, hot pot, Korean cuisine, and coffee shops. Some restaurants are even open until 3 a.m., so late-night snacks are no problem. 😋❤️
💞 Why I recommend it: Affordable prices, convenient location, and proximity to various shopping areas along Line 10. It has everything you need for food, fun, and entertainment, and it's not far from tourist attractions.
🗓️ Itinerary
Day 1: 1> UpperHills 2> Wuhe Night Market
📍 Transportation: Take Shenzhen Metro Line 10 to Dongguanling Station. From there, you can access the underground mall directly.
UpperHills is a colorful European-style loft town. The mall is enormous and connects to Lianhua Mountain and Bijiashan Park. It has everything you need, with diverse dining options. I recommend a vegetarian restaurant called "Jun" New-Style Vegetarian Cuisine, which was quite tasty. After exploring the mall and having dinner, I met up with my cousin and headed to Wuhe Station to visit the night market. The market features small food stalls. After strolling around, we returned to the apartment. However, we couldn't resist having a late-night BBQ at "Woodhouse" BBQ, located in the plaza below the apartment, which is open until 3 a.m. 👍🏻
Day 2: 1> Vanke Plaza 2> Gankeng Ancient Town 3> Wanda Plaza
1> Vanke Plaza
📍 Transportation: Take Shenzhen Metro Line 10 to Bantian Station.
Vanke Plaza feels like an indoor garden, with greenery throughout the mall. It's a great spot for photos. For lunch, I chose a Western restaurant with a countryside vibe and outdoor seating called "Supa Fama." The food and ambiance were excellent. Afterward, I headed to the main attraction, Gankeng Ancient Town.
2> Gankeng Ancient Town
📍 Transportation: Take Shenzhen Metro Line 10 to Gankeng Station. From Exit B, you can either walk about 10-13 minutes or take a shuttle bus to the entrance. 😅
Gankeng Ancient Town is a traditional Hakka town with a vintage charm. Visitors can rent Hanfu for photos and experience a journey back in time. The ancient town is filled with snack stalls, coffee shops, and restaurants, offering plenty of photo opportunities.
💞 Why I recommend it: It's a chance to escape the bustling city and step back in time, with plenty of photo spots. 📍 I suggest visiting in the afternoon and staying until evening (3-5 hours) to experience both the day and night vibes of Gankeng Ancient Town. 😊🩷
3> Wanda Plaza
📍 Transportation: Take Shenzhen Metro Line 10 to Mugu Station, then walk about 15 minutes.
After traveling back in time, I returned to the modern era at Wanda Plaza, a large shopping mall that combines entertainment, shopping, leisure, and dining. The mall features a sci-fi design and even has an indoor zoo—Yen Animal Park—where you can feed and interact with animals, making it a great place for family fun. There's also an indoor amusement park with go-karts, bumper cars, and more, perfect for thrill-seekers.
💞 Why I recommend it: Wanda Plaza is a great place for all ages, offering a wide range of activities. 👍🏻
Day 3: Heading back. Before leaving, I had to visit Link Central City in Futian 🤭 because it has my favorite collectible toys, which left me dazzled. 🤣 After shopping, I had dinner at "Yue Ji Xian" seafood hot pot. And with that, my 3-day food and fun trip came to an end.
Every time a trip ends, I start looking forward to the next one. ❤️❤️
P.S. Due to post limitations, I couldn't upload too many photos. 🙏🏻
