🦌 Exploring Shiretoko for the First Time

Though I’ve visited Hokkaido many times, this was my very first trip to Shiretoko, one of Japan’s most breathtaking natural regions. My journey began at Kitahama Station, a quiet seaside stop known as one of the best places to view drift ice during winter — a truly magical sight when the sea turns into a frozen white landscape.

From there, I headed toward the Shiretoko Nature Center, surrounded by untouched wilderness and crisp northern air. As I walked along the trail, I was greeted by a small wild deer — absolutely adorable! 🩷 The encounter made the already beautiful scenery feel even more special.

Shiretoko is a place where you can truly feel the harmony between wildlife and humans. Its serene atmosphere, coastal views, and chance encounters with nature make it a destination worth returning to in every season.
