A unique coffee shop at the port | Balangyu

I first came across the Balangyu Coffee Shop at a well-known local coffee shop in Chengtian Lane in downtown Quanzhou. I heard that this shop opened a new branch at Xiangzhi Wharf in Shishi. The location is very unique. It is rare to see a coffee shop opened in a port where fishermen come and go. Taking advantage of the May Day holiday, I made an appointment with my friends to experience this special coffee shop.

Xiangzhi Wharf is quite far from Quanzhou city, so we chose to take a taxi and locate Xiangzhi Wharf. After getting off the car, we can see a sign for a coffee shop.
The building of the coffee shop was originally an ice-making room, providing ice for fishermen to store their catches. Although it has been transformed into a coffee shop, the original appearance of the building has been retained. The industrial-style rough-hewn style and mottled walls vaguely reflect its past experiences.

The large windowsill in the store allow people to see the fishing boats and fishermen coming and going in the port while drinking coffee indoors. Several unique installations such as the pearl prayer, woven wine bags, fishing nets and fences are all manifestations of local culture.
Although the store has three floors, there are not many seats available. When I was sitting inside the store, I saw several groups of tourists who came here for the restaurant but left in the end because there were no vacancies.

The coffee is good and the scenery is unique, but the conditions of the port itself cause a strong smell of the sea. People who don't live by the sea may find it unbearable. The smell is slightly less indoors, but flies are inevitable. If you want to come here, be mentally prepared. After all, it is far from the city, and most people need to spend a lot of time and energy to come here.
