Core landmark: Subotica Synagogue
As the only synagogue in Europe that incorporates Hungarian Art Nouveau style, this building built in 1902 is decorated with peacock feathers, tulips, and lily patterns on the exterior walls. The stained glass windows and painted walls inside create a fairy-tale visual feast. The staggered seating design on the second floor is very interesting. It was on the verge of being abandoned because the Holocaust survivors were unable to maintain it. It was donated to the city in 1979 and restored as a cultural landmark. It now often hosts concerts.
