🇨🇳 Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China
♥️ Gejiawu Nongjia Restaurant (Shushan Village Branch)
During my 3-day, 2-night trip to Suzhou in Jiangsu Province, China, I visited an amazing local restaurant that I highly recommend. Located in Shushan Ecological Village, this gem is called Gejiawu Nongjia Restaurant (Shushan Village Branch). It’s a favorite spot among locals, introduced to me by a Suzhou native friend who grew up in the area.
We were a group of three and ordered Steamed Chicken with Wonton (清蒸馄饨鸡), Soy Sauce Shrimp (酱油虾), Vegetable Rice (咸肉菜饭), and Amaranth Greens (苋菜). The total cost was just 169 yuan, offering great taste, generous portions, and excellent value for money.
What made the experience even more special was dining outdoors at the end of May, with a gentle mountain breeze. The view of the blue sky and lush green mountains beyond the restaurant’s fence added to the delightful atmosphere.
According to my Suzhou friend, the chicken used in the Steamed Chicken with Wonton dish is raised by the restaurant owner, who lets them roam freely in the fields. This gives the chicken a unique, chewy texture that’s simply outstanding. The wontons were filled with fragrant vegetables, making them incredibly delicious.
It was also my first time trying Amaranth Greens (苋菜), a vegetable that turns a pinkish hue when stir-fried, resembling beetroot. Its texture is similar to spinach, with a slightly bitter yet delightful taste.
Nestled in Shushan Ecological Village, this restaurant offers the perfect combination of enjoying nature and savoring healthy, flavorful food. If you’re planning a trip to Suzhou, why not treat yourself to a wholesome meal at Gejiawu Nongjia Restaurant (Shushan Village Branch)? 🇨🇳💚
