This place is an absolute gem. Unlike some other water towns that feel more like theme parks, Tongli retains a sense of authenticity. It’s a real town with real people living there. I was able to see locals doing their laundry by the river and going about their daily lives. The town is small enough to navigate easily, and the main sights—like the Tuisi Garden and the Three Bridges—are all within a comfortable walking distance. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the town is wheelchair accessible, which is a big plus. If you are looking for a genuine, peaceful, and culturally rich experience, Tongli Ancient Town is the place to go.

* The town is very easy to get lost in (in a good way), so consider picking up a map at the entrance to help you navigate if you have limited time.
