A Stroll Through Suzhou: The Poetry and Everyday Life of a Water Town Ancient City

Staying in the right spot in Suzhou is so important! This magical homestay tucked away on Pingjiang Road doubled my happiness on my Jiangnan trip, and my bestie keeps asking for the link.
📍The location is absolutely perfect
Step outside onto the bluestone path of Pingjiang Road. Before 7 AM, you can capture the river reflections with no one around. A 5-minute evening stroll takes you to the gondola dock, where you can listen to the boatwoman sing folk tunes while lanterns light up. It’s a 9-minute walk to the subway station, and just over ten minutes to the Humble Administrator’s Garden and Lion Grove Garden. No need to struggle with transportation—save all your time for exploring and eating, it’s amazing.
✨A delightful blend of old and new
The moment you enter, the Suzhou-style courtyard captivates you—white walls, black tiles, and greenery. Wearing a hanfu and walking through the courtyard corridor feels like an instant filter. But inside the rooms, there’s cutting-edge tech: voice control for lights and curtains, and you can set the mood right from bed. This mix of tradition and smart tech is simply wonderful.
I have to praise the “Cloud” room I stayed in! The large floor-to-ceiling window faces the classic white walls and black tiles, with clouds drifting overhead. Sitting on the rooftop terrace at dusk, you can see old rooftops and modern skyscrapers in one frame—every snap feels like a cinematic masterpiece.
💡The landlady’s secret tips
Before check-in, I received a detailed guide recommending less crowded spots like the Couple’s Garden, and the Pingtan Museum with performances every day at 2 PM. She even marked the most authentic Su-style noodle soup places clearly—more useful than any three-day itinerary I made.
If you want to pack all the gentle charm of Suzhou into your suitcase, choosing this place is definitely the right call!
