This fairy-tale island by Taihu Lake is perfect for a weekend getaway! Fewer crowds, beautiful scenery, and the freshest lake delicacies—you have to try it. Here’s a hidden gem guide for those wanting a brief escape from the city~
🌅 Must-Visit Spots:
1. Mingyue Bay Ancient Village
A thousand-year-old village hidden on the west side of the island, with stone paths, an ancient dock, and century-old camphor trees. Every snapshot looks like a masterpiece of Jiangnan water towns. Watching the sunset at the old dock in the evening is amazing! (P.S.: The green rice dumplings sold by the grandma at the village entrance are super delicious)
2. Shigong Mountain Scenic Area
The best spot to overlook Taihu Lake from above. The mountain isn’t high, but the view is incredibly wide. It’s recommended to come in the morning; the lake in the morning mist looks like a fairyland~
3. Linwu Cave
The "Ninth Cave of the World" is no exaggeration! It’s super cool inside during summer, and the colorful lights in the cave are especially dreamy. Remember to wear non-slip shoes.
4. Taihu Bridge
The lake views along the way are incredibly healing! If driving, it’s best to cross the bridge at sunset—the golden glow on the lake is breathtaking.
🌿 There are many farmhouses on the island where you can pick fresh fruit: bayberries in May-June and oranges in September-October. Picking and eating fresh is so joyful!
🚗 Transportation Tips:
Self-driving is the most convenient (about 1 hour from Suzhou city center)
You can take Express Line 11 to Jinting and transfer at the hub station
There are sightseeing buses between island attractions, 20 RMB per person for a pass
