Tacheng - A Distinctive Small City on China's Northwestern Border

Located in northwestern Xinjiang, Tacheng City is part of the Tacheng Prefecture and borders Kazakhstan to the west, connected by the Baketu Port.

Due to its geographical location, the city was heavily influenced by Soviet Russia in modern times. There are numerous historical relics throughout the city, and its architectural style shows strong Russian influence, with notable examples including the Red Building Museum and the Bella Hotel.

Tacheng, also known as Tarbaghatai, means "the place where marmots live" in Mongolian. Although it has a small population, it is home to multiple ethnic groups.

The city is compact yet refined, with a pleasant urban environment. The local ice cream and bread are special delicacies that visitors shouldn't miss.

Tacheng City has convenient transportation options, with train services to Urumqi and flights to Yining, Turpan, Altay, Zhengzhou, and other destinations both within and outside the autonomous region.
