During my visit to Taichung, I stopped by the Budokan Martial Arts Hall at night, and it was nothing short of magical. Built in 1937, this historic structure was originally a martial arts training space for prison officials to practice kendo and judo. Walking through it felt like stepping back in time, surrounded by the stories and discipline of those who trained there nearly a century ago.
The symmetrical design of the hall is striking, with its blend of traditional Japanese architecture and functional spaces. The left side houses the Kendo Hall, while the right side features the Judo Hall, both evoking a sense of strength and elegance. At night, the softly lit grounds create a tranquil yet awe-inspiring atmosphere, perfect for appreciating its historical significance.
In 2004, the Budokan was recognized as a historic site, and today, it plays host to exhibitions and cultural events that carry forward the spirit of creativity and dedication once fostered here. Whether you’re a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or just curious about Taiwan’s heritage, this spot offers a unique perspective on the island’s past.
If you visit, go in the evening—the quiet ambiance and beautifully lit surroundings add an unforgettable charm to this incredible landmark. 🌌🎴
