I have eaten at many famous restaurants in Tainan, but I have never eaten at Ding Fu Fa. This time, I took advantage of the New Year's Eve to avoid the crowds and came to Tainan to try it.

I heard from others that you must arrive at this restaurant as soon as it opens, otherwise you will have to wait in line forever. We arrived at about 11:10, and the restaurant was basically full. Luckily there was still a seat for two people that was exposed to the sun. We thought we wouldn’t eat for too long, so we sat down. Later we found out that the restaurant would actually show us to our seats 😅

The menu is very simple, including staple food, side dishes, meat skewers and soup. If you don’t know what to choose, you can directly choose the set meal (remember to choose the one with lard rice + raw egg yolk). Since we had a lot of food to eat later, we simply ordered lard rice + raw egg yolk, kimchi, and meatball soup. The kimchi is sweet, very refreshing and very Taiwanese. The meatball soup is made with bonito flakes. If you want a clear soup with some pepper, you can skip this one. What impressed me the most was the lard rice! Although I had heard of its reputation before eating it and had high standards in my mind, I was still shocked when I took a bite. The lard mixed with shallots and rice had a fragrant aroma, and the raw egg yolk wrapped the whole flavor together. It did not taste greasy like other lard-mixed rice that made me unable to eat after eating too much. After finishing one bowl, I wanted to order a second bowl!

The overall transportation, service and food are OK. I highly recommend lard rice + raw egg yolk. You must come and try it if you have the chance😋
