Nankunshendai Tianfu: The place where the king's ship set sail, the center of faith beyond the sea

On the coast of Beimen Township in Tainan, lies the Nankunshen Daitian Temple, a historic and deeply worshipped center of deity worship. Not only is it one of Taiwan's most iconic temples dedicated to deities, it's also revered as the "Five Thousand-Year-Old Temple," a splendid landmark at the intersection of southern Taiwan's folk beliefs and maritime culture.

Nankunshen was originally a sandbar port, and the word "Kunshen" means sandbar. Legend has it that during the Ming Dynasty, statues of five deities drifted there. The locals, believing it miraculous, erected a temple to venerate them, and deities have been worshipped ever since. Daitian Temple, named Daitian Temple, signifies the Five Thousand-Year-Old Deities who patrol on behalf of Heaven and protect the people. It primarily enshrines the Five Thousand-Year-Old Deities: Li, Chi, Wu, Zhu, and Fan. It is the central sacred site of Taiwanese deity worship.
