Taiwan is one of the most popular travel destinations near Japan and easy to get to. Many people visit Taipei, the central city! Whether you've been to Taipei many times or it's your first time, here are some must-see tourist spots!
1. Taipei 101
Taipei 101 is a skyscraper that can be said to be the symbol of Taipei.
As its name suggests, this 101-story building is 509 meters tall! From the indoor observation deck on the 89th floor, you can get a 360-degree view of Taipei, and from the evening to the night, you can see a wonderful night view. On a clear day, you can also go to the outdoor observation deck on the 91st floor, so why not visit it?
2. Martyrs' Shrine
This is a place where the spirits of heroes who died in past revolutions and other events are enshrined. The changing of the guards here is famous, and many tourists visit every day to watch the changing of the guards. The sight of the guards standing motionless in front of the gate and marching in perfect unison is overwhelming.
3. Shilin Night Market
Taiwan is known for its night markets, so why not try some food at Shilin Night Market, the largest in Taipei? You can eat your way around and try dishes like face-sized chicken platters, pepper buns, and oyster omelets! The Shilin Market Underground Food Street is like a food court, so you can sit down and eat, and since it's underground, you can enjoy Taiwanese cuisine regardless of the weather!
4. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (National Father Memorial Hall)
This is a facility that honors Chiang Kai-shek, the father of the Republic of China. Inside there is a large statue of Chiang Kai-shek. The changing of the guard ceremony used to be held here, but it was abolished in July 2024. However, it seems that an outdoor parade is still held every hour! Like the Martyrs' Shrine, the perfectly coordinated parade is a masterpiece.
5. Xiaolongbao
When it comes to Taiwanese cuisine, Xiaolongbao is the first thing to come to mind! There are many famous xiaolongbao restaurants in Taipei! They're also reasonably priced, so why not find your favorite xiaolongbao restaurant? In addition to regular xiaolongbao, some shops offer loofah xiaolongbao and xiaolongbao with truffles!
