Recommended Izakaya in Taipei

If you're looking for a great izakaya on Civic Boulevard, I highly recommend 'Shoukyuu Sashimi, Skewers & Late-Night Eats.'

The food here is consistently excellent. The sashimi is incredibly fresh with no fishy smell. The stir-fried water spinach is perfectly crisp with just the right balance of saltiness. The dishes featuring mentaiko are outstanding, especially the tamagoyaki, which is a must-try. It's generously portioned, with soft tamagoyaki filled with cheese and paired with mentaiko sauce—absolutely divine and very filling. However, if you order too many mentaiko dishes, it might get a bit overwhelming. 🤣

The pudding is delightful, with a soft and smooth texture that's not overly sweet. The grilled dango is also fantastic, with a slightly crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior. Paired with black sugar syrup, it makes for an excellent dessert.

As for the drinks, the signature cocktails are just okay (the alcohol taste is quite strong), but the tea options are more enjoyable.

The only slight disappointment was the grilled short ribs, which were a bit overcooked and ended up being too tough.

This place is quite popular, so reservations are recommended. Online reservations require a deposit.
