We often say that people should strive for higher places, meaning they should strive upward, rather than being like water, which, without effort, will sink downward. However, this saying is completely contradicted at the Water Flows Upward Recreation Area. Located along Provincial Highway 11 in Donghe Township, Taitung County, this area, close to the main road, is a popular rest stop for tourists. Originally an agricultural irrigation ditch, it gained fame due to the slight inclination of the terrain, which creates the illusion that the water is flowing upward. Beside the ditch stands a stone inscribed with the words "Wonder" and a brief description. The entire park is not very large, and most visitors stop by to rest, though some come specifically to witness this unnatural phenomenon of water flowing upward. If you're visiting Donghe, stop by to relax and take a break, while also taking in this so-called "wonder" of water flowing upward.
