Ritsurin Garden, located in Ritsurin Town, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, is one of Japan's most renowned special scenic gardens. Spanning an area of 75 hectares, the garden is divided into the southern garden (Japanese style) and the northern garden (Western style). It features six ponds, thirteen artificial hills, and over a thousand pine trees. To visit, take the Kotoden (Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railway) from JR Takamatsu Station to "Ritsurin Garden Station" and walk about 3 minutes.
I visited in early September when the weather was extremely hot. I recommend bringing an umbrella or other sun protection items. The amazake (non-alcoholic sweet sake) at the souvenir center is very delicious, and there are other local specialty souvenirs available for purchase. Plan to spend at least two hours here.
