Offering a serene journey through greenery and time.
When you think of Taoyuan City, you might first picture Taoyuan Night Market, shopping malls, or the Taoyuan Arts District. But for me, the true soul-soothing charm of Taoyuan lies in a quiet and pure green bike trail—the Taolin Iron Horse Trail.
This bike path, transformed from an old railway, is located near Hutoushan Park in Taoyuan District. Unlike many popular attractions bustling with crowds, it has a unique magic that invites you to slow down and savor the moment.
🌳 Light and shadow in the green tunnel
As soon as I started riding on the Taolin Iron Horse Trail, I was immediately enveloped by lush greenery on both sides. Tall trees form a natural shaded tunnel, providing a cool breeze even on hot afternoons. Sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground that sway with the wind, making you feel like you've stepped into a scene from a Studio Ghibli film.
Along the way, you'll encounter preserved railway elements and old tracks, giving the impression of boarding a time train from the past. There are also charming pavilions, red brick walls, and railway fences, showcasing the intricate details of "local life in Taoyuan."
📸 A haven for photography enthusiasts
For photography lovers like me, this trail feels like a natural studio. Here are some hidden spots for great shots:
- The shaded path with interwoven light and shadow: Visit around 3 PM for the softest light and the most dreamy atmosphere.
- The wooden walkway near railway-themed installations: It resembles a small old station platform, exuding a nostalgic vibe.
With fewer visitors, you won't have to worry about interruptions, making it the perfect place to capture "just the scenery and you" moments.
🚴♂️ More than cycling—an urban escape
The Taolin Iron Horse Trail isn't just for cyclists; you'll often see elderly walkers, young people with dogs, or couples chatting hand in hand. The path is very flat, with wooden platforms and rest areas, making it easy and relaxing to explore.
For someone like me who spends all day in an office, coming here feels like "escaping life temporarily." You can ride a bike, take a stroll, or simply do nothing—just sit in a pavilion, listen to the chirping birds and insects, and watch sunlight filter through the leaves.
🧭 Transportation Information
🚉 Closest public transport:
