Maijishan Grottoes are an important attraction in Maijishan Scenic Area and a national 5A-level tourist attraction. They are named because their shape resembles a farmer's haystack.
The Maijishan Grottoes are carved into a vertical cliff face that is 20-80 meters high and 200 meters wide. There are 194 caves, including 54 on the east cliff and 140 on the west cliff. There are more than 7,800 clay sculptures, stone clay sculptures and stone carvings. The largest statue is the East Cliff Buddha, which is 15.8 meters high. There are also murals covering more than 1,000 square meters.
