[West-Facing Kannon and Thousand Child-Rearing Jizo Statues in Shiba Park, Tokyo]

#EnjoyJapan

I visited the West-Facing Kannon and Thousand Child-Rearing Jizo Statues located in Shiba Park, Tokyo.

They are situated within the grounds of Zojoji Temple.

The West-Facing Kannon is a stone statue said to have been enshrined by Hojo Tokiyori during the Kamakura period, who built a small temple on Kannon Mountain (now Tokyo Tower) facing the Kamakura Highway.

It is believed to have miraculous powers for child-rearing and safe childbirth.

The Thousand Child-Rearing Jizo Statues have been successively enshrined since 1975, praying for the safe growth and health of children.

The red knit hats and pinwheels were vividly colorful.

The number of Jizo statues was also impressive.
