🎄 Magical slopes in Tokyo's winter: Keyakizaka illuminations and the night view of Roppongi Hills

🎄 A magical winter slope in Tokyo—Keyakizaka Illuminations and the Roppongi Hills Night View

A Tokyo winter tradition: the Christmas illuminations on Roppongi Keyakizaka Street.

From mid-November to around December 25th, approximately 700,000 LED lights are lit along the roughly 400-meter tree-lined street, creating a magical landscape with Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Tower in the background.

The pure white "SNOW & BLUE" lights shimmer and envelop the rows of zelkova trees, creating a feeling of transparency as you walk along. Weekend evenings are especially busy, but late weekday evenings (around 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM) are the best time to visit.

📷 3 Best Photo Spots
1. Near the "Mori Garden Side" Entrance to Roppongi Keyakizaka
→ A classic composition that captures the illuminations and Tokyo Tower in a straight line. This is the perfect spot for beautiful, blur-free photos even with a smartphone.
2. Aerial View from the Terrace at Roppongi Hills West Walk (2F)
→ A hidden gem for capturing Keyakizaka from above. The slope's beautiful curves and the bands of light are emphasized, making for a stunning photo.
3. Center of the sidewalk in front of the Grand Hyatt and at the corner of Louis Vuitton
→ The perfect spot for a symmetrical composition. With the Hills tower in the background, it makes for a romantic shot.

☕ Places to Stop in Between Photo Shoots
• Freshly Baked Apple Pie at "RINGO" on Hillside B2F
Perfect for a warm snack during the cold winter months.
• Illumination of Mori Garden
The lights reflected on the pond at night are fantastic. A relaxing space where you can enjoy quietly while avoiding the crowds.
• Roppongi Hills Observation Deck (Tokyo City View)
From the observation deck, you can look down on the lights of Keyakizaka, and see the Rainbow Bridge and Skytree in the distance (additional fee applies).

✍️
Not only are the illuminations beautiful, but Keyakizaka Street is also perfect for viewing them while walking. By walking slowly, I was able to fully enjoy the feeling of being enveloped in light and the crisp air of Tokyo's winter.

As a popular spot with international tourists, there were many people taking photos, but it was a peaceful space where people were considerate of each other. It gets quite crowded just before Christmas, so it's best to visit early.
