This building is the new city hall of Kingston University, including a library, event spaces, dance studios, and music rooms, with a total area of 9,100 square meters (10,450 square meters including the terrace). The architects adopted an open design concept aimed at creating a welcoming and supportive environment for students and visitors. The building uses passive strategies to achieve comfortable thermal, visual, and acoustic environments and has received a BREEAM Excellent rating. The facade is open and transparent on the lower floors, becoming more solid on the upper floors where shading is needed. The building’s educational vision and concept are unique and avant-garde, combining the library with dance studios, performance, and event spaces, allowing these contrasting elements to happily coexist. The building is a warehouse of ideas.
