Patuxai: The Victory Gate

Patuxai, also known as the Victory Gate, is located in Vientiane, the capital of Laos. It was built as a monument to honor the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation during World War II and to commemorate Laos' independence from France. The structure resembles the Arc de Triomphe in Paris but is adorned with traditional Laotian art in the Lan Xang style. Constructed between 1957 and 1968, it serves as a memorial for Lao soldiers who lost their lives. The monument is decorated with mythical creatures from Buddhist beliefs, such as kinnaree, naga, and deities from Hindu-Brahmin traditions, which embellish the surrounding area. Visitors can enjoy walking around and taking photos. 🏖️ Environment/Facilities: It features a spacious open area.
