The Mikata Five Lakes are located between the towns of Mihama and Wakasa in Fukui Prefecture.
Located within Wakasa Quasi-National Park, they collectively comprise Lake Mikata, Lake Suigetsu, Lake Suga, Lake Kyoko, and Lake Hyuga, and are designated a National Scenic Spot.
Lake Hyuga, connected to Wakasa Bay, and Lake Mikata, the most inland of the five lakes, each boasts a diverse range of water qualities and depths, including freshwater, saltwater, and brackish water. The varying shades of cyan in each lake earn them the nickname "Five-Colored Lakes."
From the first parking lot on the popular Prefectural Road Mikata Five Lakes Rainbow Road, take a chairlift or cable car to the summit park, offering stunning 360-degree views of the five lakes and Wakasa Bay. The area features sofa seating, a foot bath, a cafe, and five terraces with distinct views, offering a breathtaking view not to be missed. The park also boasts numerous attractions, including a rose garden offering stunning blossoms in spring and autumn, and the "Bell of Happiness," designated a "holy place for lovers." 👍🏻👍🏻
