Xinyang is definitely a hidden gem city in Henan! You can enjoy a comfortable and relaxing two-day weekend trip, and we've organized the guide for you~
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Xinyang in the morning and head straight to Nanwan Lake (ticket + boat 75 RMB). Take a boat to the island and explore; Tea Island is a must-visit! In the afternoon, go to Wenxin Tea Village, where the tea gardens on the hills are super soothing. Taste Maojian tea (30 RMB/cup) and watch the sunset. Stay overnight at a guesthouse in the city center.
Day 2: Climb Jigong Mountain (ticket 60 RMB) to breathe fresh air, check in at Baoxiao Peak and the air-raid shelter, and before heading back in the afternoon, enjoy a local specialty of stewed fish with diguo bread~
Accommodation Recommendations Near Shihe River in the city center, we recommend Hilton Garden Inn (300+ RMB/night) or Old Street Guesthouse (around 150 RMB), both convenient for transportation and dining!
Transportation Tips Taxi rides within Xinyang city are cheap, and there are convenient dedicated bus lines between attractions (Nanwan Lake L1 route / Jigong Mountain route 4). Avoid unlicensed taxis!
Must-Try Foods Shi Liangfen (cold jelly noodles, 5 RMB per bowl on the street), Menganrou (stewed meat in a sealed pot), Xinyang hot dry noodles (different from Wuhan’s!), and Nanwan fish head soup~ Xiaonanmen Night Market and Shenbei Road are food hubs!
Pitfall Avoidance ❗ Nanwan Lake boat tickets must be purchased, but you can skip the extra-fee islands; the Jigong Mountain sightseeing bus costs 20 RMB and is worth the price; don’t buy tea in the scenic spots—Mingqian Maojian tea in the tea village is reasonably priced at about 500 RMB per jin; bring mosquito repellent in summer!!
Xinyang has a slow pace and low prices, perfect for a weekend to relax~ Just go for it!
