It is a pagoda located in the heart of Yangon. According to legend, the pagoda was built before the Shwedagon Pagoda during the life of the Buddha, making it more than 2,500 years old.
It is believed that it used to enshrine the Buddha's hair relics, which were given to two merchant brothers, Tapussa and Bhallika.
According to legend, the current location of the Sule Pagoda used to be the residence of a Na (a sacred object according to the beliefs of the Burmese people) named Sule. When Lord Sakka wanted to help King Okkalapa find a place to enshrine the hair relics, Lord Sakka did not know where it should be. The gods, humans, and King Okkalapa gathered at Sule Pagoda, and Na Sule suggested a place to build the Shwedagon Pagoda.
