Experience the sensation of rising water levels at Gezhouba Dam

When visiting Yichang, taking a Yangtze River cruise is a must. If you're curious about the water conservancy projects of the Three Gorges, head to Gezhouba Dam to witness the fascinating phenomenon of rising water levels. To make things easier, I joined the one-day tour of the "Two Dams and One Gorge" cruise organized by Jiaoyun, which saved me the hassle of buying tickets and arranging transportation. I opted for the boat ride to the destination and a car ride back, giving me ample time to enjoy the scenic views along the Yangtze River.

The lush green mountains and picturesque landscapes on both sides of the Yangtze River are truly breathtaking. Passing through layer upon layer of mountains, the morning was spent patiently waiting at Gezhouba Dam to experience the rising water levels and pass through the two ship locks. Since the ship is large and crowded with tourists, it's important to secure a spot at the bow early to get a close-up view of the water level changes and the thrilling moment when the gates open. In the afternoon, I visited the Three Gorges Dam to see the construction of the Yangtze River's water conservancy project. While the visit felt a bit rushed and less engaging, it confirmed the saying, "Not visiting the Three Gorges Dam is a regret, but seeing it might leave you disappointed." Nonetheless, the experience of passing through the ship locks at Gezhouba Dam was well worth the trip.
