Baofanbao ~ Yilan's Okinawa rice ball brunch restaurant

Baofanbao~Yilan Specialty Okinawa Rice Ball Brunch Shop

Hidden in a small alley in Luodong, there is a unique Japanese Okinawan-style shop.
As soon as we walked into the store, we could see the boss preparing the ingredients and he greeted us warmly. Although the store was small, it had everything. After being decorated by the boss, it had the flavor of a Japanese shop.

The prices on the menu are reasonable, and during the trial period, miso soup (black tea for vegetarians) and lettuce salad are provided, which means you can enjoy a set meal for less than NT$100.

The wide variety of items on the menu made us feel overwhelmed with choice that day. After the owner’s friendly introduction, we finally chose the ginger-grilled beef and the vegetarian seared mentaiko.

The rice ball wrapped in a paper bag is super big, and even men can eat a full portion; the ginger-roasted beef is moist and goes very well with the ginger juice. The thick tamagoyaki, a specialty of Okinawa rice balls, also fully plays the finishing touch. There is also a piece of ham wrapped in nori. When you take a bite, it's as if you've arrived at the coast of Okinawa in an instant. The exotic atmosphere is beyond words.

The boss thoughtfully prepared six kinds of vegetarian rice balls, and the sauces were all prepared by the boss himself. I ordered the seared mentaiko, which was not greasy and had a smooth texture. Mentaiko, which is a rice killer in itself, forms a perfect match with seaweed and tamagoyaki. I still felt unsatisfied after eating the whole thing.

How can brunch be complete without drinks? The store’s homemade lotus tea is not only beautiful and photogenic, but also delicious. It is packaged in a special beverage bottle and has a light lotus fragrance. It is nourishing and beautifying, and it is a delicacy that you cannot find outside.

The lettuce salad and miso soup served during the trial operation were also not sloppy at all, the lettuce was crisp and the miso soup was rich. I admire the boss's professionalism.

Although it is a small shop, the affordable and delicious prices, as well as the Japanese-style Okinawan rice balls, have attracted countless people. When we left that day, there was already a line outside, with each person holding three or five rice burgers. Although it was busy, the boss still greeted us warmly. I highly recommend going to Luodong Town to enjoy the combined cultural impact of the Japanese food in the store and the Taiwanese human touch.
