A Day in Yokosuka — Touring the Naval Port and Exotic Night Markets
Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. Known for its sea and military bases, this city offers a unique sightseeing experience.
First, we headed to the "YOKOSUKA Naval Port Tour." Boarding a pleasure boat from Shioiri Pier, we got up close and personal with U.S. Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels. The sight of the escort ships and submarines lined up was breathtaking, and the guide's humorous commentary was a delight. It was an extraordinary experience, like stepping into a movie scene.
• 🚉 Access: Approximately 5 minutes' walk from Shioiri Station on the Keikyu Line
• ⏰ Travel Time: Approximately 45 minutes (Regular cruises depart almost every hour)
• 💴 Price: ¥1,800 for adults, ¥900 for elementary school students
After the cruise, we headed to Shioiri Terminal, located right next to the departure and arrival point. The small souvenir corner was filled with a wide selection of Self-Defense Force merchandise. There were plenty of items unique to Yokosuka, including camouflage accessories and patches, and T-shirts featuring escort ships. I couldn't help but buy a keychain as a souvenir.
In the evening, I headed to the shopping mall "Coaska Bayside Stores." The building regularly hosts a "Taiwan Night Market" and an "Okinawa/Hokkaido Product Exhibition," allowing you to enjoy authentic cuisine. The food, savored while enjoying the Yokosuka sea breeze, is exceptionally delicious, surrounded by an exotic atmosphere.
The impressive naval port, exclusive goods, and the night market gave me the feeling of traveling abroad. Yokosuka was a place where I could experience the feeling of traveling multiple times in one day.
