Swiss Zermatt Trekking: Moosjisee

[Trip Moment Delivery 🗞️]
On this trip, I visited the mysterious turquoise lake created by glacial water, Moosjisee! 🇨🇭💧❄️

🛄 | A Lake Touched by the Breath of the Alps Glacier
Moosjisee is the fourth lake on Zermatt's 5-Seenweg (Five Lakes Trail) and has a completely different atmosphere compared to the previous three lakes. As you descend along the mountain meadow path, the view suddenly opens up, revealing turquoise water amidst white stones and rocks. This unique color is created by fine minerals and limestone carried by the melting glacier, changing from gray to turquoise to sky blue depending on the angle of view.

🌿 Striking Colors and Contrasting Scenery
As you approach the lakeside, the water's color becomes more vivid, and the silhouette of the Matterhorn faintly reflects on its surface. While other lakes exude a calm and serene 'mirror-like' vibe, Moosjisee feels like a place brimming with the energy of nature. The ripples seem alive with every gust of wind, and the surface sparkles silver under the sunlight. The contrast between the gray rocks and the greenish water makes it feel like a natural color experiment lab.

🏔️ A Landscape Where Human Touch and Nature Coexist
Moosjisee is a natural lake that also serves as a reservoir for hydroelectric power. Therefore, its water level is not constant, and the amount and color of the water change with the seasons. However, even this artificial element blends seamlessly into the Alpine scenery. Short wooden bridges are installed around the lake, allowing visitors to get closer to the water or take photos. The swaying grass and rippling water create a unique sense of dynamism.

✅️ | Travel Tips
1️⃣ Route – Zermatt → Sunnegga → Blauherd → Follow the 5-Seenweg trail for about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach it. It is located midway through the descent section leading to Leisee.
2️⃣ Recommended Time – Visit in the afternoon (1 PM to 4 PM) rather than in the morning. The sunlight directly hits the lake, making its colors shine most vividly.
3️⃣ Caution – The area near the water is sloped, and the glacial water is cold, so avoid dipping your feet or getting too close.
4️⃣ Photo Tip – The lake's color changes significantly depending on the presence of clouds. On clear days, it appears turquoise, while on cloudy days, it turns grayish. Wait for sunlight to break through the clouds for the best shots.
