📝Here is some guidance for visiting the Tianmen Mountain.
Disclaimer: keep an eye on the weather forecasts, I wouldn’t recommend visiting Zhangjiajie during rainy/stormy weather, as evidently from my photos, the views aren’t as grand!
💴Adult Ticket Price: 275 yuan
Student Ticket Price: 144 yuan
If you are a student, you will need photo ID (eg passport) and your student ID.
🌅I recommend staying within Zhangjiajie city, in one of the numerous accommodations around the Lower Station of the Cableway. We started our day at around 8am, grabbing some cheap, local breakfast. From our hotel, it was around a 20 minute walk to the Lower Station of the Cableway.
🚠You can either book Route A or Route B, the former of which immediately takes the long 20 minute cableway up the mountain, and the latter of which will get the cableway back down the mountain. We took Route B.
🏔️Both routes start at the same place, for route B, we first took a coach to the bottom of a shorter Tianmen Cave Express Cableway. This one lasts around 10 minutes, taking you up the mountain. From here, a short 10 minute walk takes you around the hillside.
🏞️Here you will find yourself before the spectacular view of the Tianmen Cave (which is hidden in picture 1). From here, climb the 999 steps up to the Tianmen Cave (be careful at some parts are fairly steep). Alternatively, there are elevators that can be taken instead of walking up the steps (32/16 yuan one way).
⛰️Once at the top of the stairs, enjoy views that look out across the landscape, before riding a series of escalators to reach the mountaintop.
🚶♀️Along the mountaintop there are 3 opportunities for mini skywalks along glass bridges (two on the East Line and one on the West Line), which cost an additional 5 yuan per person per bridge if you want to use them.
🚶♂️Follow the East Line route that goes along the cliff side going clockwise that takes you halfway around the mountaintop. From here, either continue along the cliff side along the West Line, or alternatively pay an additional charge to take the Forest Sightseeing Cable Car (25/13 yuan) that cuts across the mountaintop.
🚡This brings you to the Upper station of the Grand Cableway. this 20 minute cableway takes you back down to the lower station of the cableway in the city to conclude the day.

Note: we stayed in Wulingyuan for the first three nights, and moved to Zhangjiajie City the night before Tianmen Mountain.
