Gaoyou Lake, located in the Huaihe River Basin, flows through the lake before finally reaching the Yangtze River. Spanning Gaoyou City, Baoying County, and Jinhu County in Jiangsu Province, and Tianchang City in Anhui Province, it covers a total area of 760.67 square kilometers (flat area), making it the third largest lake in Jiangsu Province after Taihu Lake and Hongze Lake.
The water level is generally 5.55 meters deep. It is a depression-type lake with a wide water surface, beautiful environment, and abundant products. Gaoyou Lake hairy crabs and Gaoyou Lake lobsters are among the famous species, and the production of fish and shrimp is also very large. [1] Gaoyou Lake is the only waterway that enters the river in Tianchang. Gaoyou Lake's main inflows include the Sanhe River (the Huaihe River's channel into the Yangtze River) and the Baita, Tonglong, and Xinkai Rivers in Tianchang County, Anhui Province. Water from the lake flows through the Nanduanzhuangtai Sluice Gate, Xinwanggang, Xingang, Laowanggang, and Yangzhuang floodgates, as well as the Maogang Sluice Gate, into Shaobo Lake and ultimately into the Yangtze River.
