Solo Trip to Taipei: Hearty Breakfast at a Popular Rice Ball Shop

"Liu Mama Rice Balls" is a famous spot known for its filling and delicious fantuan. It's so popular that you can't taste it without waiting in line!

⭐️Review
This fantuan shop is one of the most popular in Taipei. I visited on a weekday morning around 8 AM and waited for over 30 minutes to purchase their signature fantuan.

Given its reputation, I had high expectations, but I was a bit disappointed. The ingredients and rice didn't blend well together, resulting in a dry texture 🥺. The flavor balance was off, and the taste didn't come together harmoniously. The youtiao (fried dough stick) was overly greasy and felt intrusive.

Personally, I preferred the comprehensive fantuan from Qingdao Rice Balls, another shop nearby, which I tried on the same day. However, the black sesame milk I bought from Liu Mama was absolutely delicious 🥰.

Taste preferences vary, so I recommend trying different shops to compare. There are several fantuan shops in the area, so take the opportunity to find your favorite flavor 🫶.
