Zhuozhou, a Timeless Hidden Gem 🏯

#discoverchina
Today’s stop: Zhuozhou, a thousand-year-old county with roots tracing back to the Qin Dynasty. 🌸 It’s the legendary spot where Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei formed their Peach Garden Brotherhood, and even Emperor Qianlong once praised it as “the greatest prefecture under heaven.”

But history here isn’t just in books—it’s in the sunlight on the town square, the quiet resonance of “May you shine upon Zhuozhou,” and every step through its charming streets. ✨

🛣️ Getting There from Beijing
By Car: Just about 1 hour drive
By High-Speed Train: As fast as 21 minutes—perfect for a weekend day trip
🗺️ Core Attractions – All Walkable Around Zhuozhou Museum
If you start around 11:00 AM, you can comfortably finish the highlights in half a day.

📍 Zhuozhou Museum

A must-visit to get a full picture of Zhuozhou’s heritage. When I went, local grannies were sunbathing at the entrance while grandpas played chess nearby—so wholesome! ♟️
Here’s what to look out for inside:

《Zhuoshui Long Song》
Zhuozhou’s local history and legendary figures
Highlights:
Warring States-period polished black pottery jug
Eastern Han red clay heron sculpture
Jin Dynasty double-fish bronze mirror
(All beautifully crafted and historically significant!)
《Stone Art Comes Alive》
Stone carvings from various dynasties
Don’t Miss:
Liao Dynasty "62 Buddha Stele" – each of the 62 figures on this 8-sided column is unique. A rare masterpiece! 🙏
《Radiant Pottery》
Painted pottery from Eastern Han family tombs
Stars of the Show:
Colorful pottery deity lamp
China’s only adjustable painted pottery mirror stand
(Both are national first-class cultural relics!)
