It is the most precipitous, magnificent, spectacular, and largest terraced field scenic area in Yuanyang. It is characterized by a strong sense of three-dimensionality, a strong sense of color layering, and colorful, like an oil painting. However, the foundation of the viewing platform collapsed last year, and now the viewing platform has been closed, but you can still see it from the viewing point next to it.

After 5:30, more cars and people came up, and it was almost 6:30. The sunset became more and more beautiful, and the color of the terraces became ever-changing. The light moved a little bit, and the colors of the terraces in different positions were also different. I don’t know whether the villagers did it intentionally or unintentionally, but they lit a fire in the middle of the terraces, and the smoke added a touch of vitality to the terraces.

By A hornet's nest |

The Tiger Mouth Terraces have more than 850 hectares of terraces. They are the most precipitous and magnificent terraces in Yuanyang, and can be called the highest example of "earth sculpture". When we arrived, the sky was still bright, and the water surface of the terraces surrounded by mountains was like a mirror, with the blue sky and white clouds vaguely reflected on the water surface. Slowly, the light gradually dimmed, and the sunlight turned golden, sprinkled in the valley and between the terraces. The golden sunset was clearly visible on the water surface of the terraces. Quietly, the sun hid behind the mountains, and only the light penetrated through the thick clouds and came out to greet us...

The main part of the Laohuzui Terraces is divided into two large areas. It is said that when the light is right, the terraces will present the pattern of two galloping horses and a hidden dragon and crouching tiger. Forgive my stupidity, I can only see the two large terraces and cannot comprehend the best state of Laohuzui. Maybe you can see it when you are there in person?

The Tiger Mouth Terraces are the most representative and spectacular of the Hani Terraces in Yuanyang. They can be described as endless, connected, and boundless. Standing on the high Tiger Mouth and looking down, it is like a tide and a sea. If you look closely, you can vaguely see two galloping horses, or a thousand-year-old turtle lying quietly in the mountains, as if telling the vicissitudes of the Hani ancestors' reclamation of terraces. Nearly a hundred field sheds are dotted among them, like a small boat ready to sail. The downside is that the land is a bit subsided!

Tiger Mouth Terraces are located 50 kilometers from Yuanyang County. This large area of terraces is spread over a deep valley and covers more than 3,000 mu. It is one of the main scenic spots of Yuanyang Terraces.

The Laohuzui Terraces Scenic Area is located in the core area of Yuanyang Terraces National Wetland Park and the world cultural heritage application, 20 kilometers away from the old county seat. Among the main scenic spots of Yuanyang Rice Terraces, this is the best place to watch the sunset. However, the transportation is farther than that of Bada and Duoyishu, so it is recommended to share a car or charter a car.

By The highest good is like water |

The Tiger Mouth Terraces are very spectacular, with layers of terraces from the mountain to the bottom of the mountain. It is the largest terraced field in Yuanyang and is worth seeing.

By *The sky is the limit |

After I bought the ticket, I learned that the Tiger Mouth Terraces Scenic Area had been closed due to landslides. I was afraid of that myself, but a stubborn person will never lose. Based on my years of experience, if a scenic area is closed, there will naturally be scalpers who will take you to find a place to get in.

When we arrived at the entrance of the Laohuzui Terraces Scenic Area, a group of people immediately surrounded us. After some bargaining, they took us in for 20 yuan per person. However, the location was not friendly, as it was right above a landslide. The entire terraced field was split in half vertically because of the landslide. The terraced field that looked like a tiger's mouth could no longer be recognized as a tiger. A group of us squeezed onto a small platform that had not yet collapsed, and we waited for the flight opportunity from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Even if you go to pee, there will be no more flight opportunities. It's terrifying when you think about it.

Here is some basic knowledge: If you want to take good photos of the terraced fields, you must find a good camera position, have some clouds, and let the sunlight refract and reflect on the terraced fields, otherwise what you take will just be tourist photos.

Sunset at Tiger Mouth

Sunrise at Duoyishu

Sea of fog and sea of clouds

Decorate this deep land with splendor

A scenery that makes your hands tremble

Timing is important, and luck is also important.

It is the Yuanyang Rice Terraces with the steepest terrain, the most magnificent momentum, the most spectacular layout and the largest area. Especially at sunset, the three-dimensional sense and color layering of the terraces are very strong, like a colorful oil painting.

There are two viewing platforms in the Tiger Mouth Scenic Area. Although the viewing platform on the upper side is high up, there are some weeds and branches blocking the view, while the viewing platform on the lower side is not blocked by weeds.

By ~Sunrise~ |

The most famous thing about Laohuzui is the sunset. It is said that this is the best place to watch the sunset in the entire Yuanyang Terraces Scenic Area. However, we arrived very early that day and arrived at Laohuzui at 2 pm under the scorching sun.

The tour of Laohuzui is divided into two parts. One part is the viewing platform next to the road; the other part is going down along the plank road to the viewing platform halfway up the mountain for a closer view.

The viewing platform is also quite large, about 100 meters long. The tour is one-way, with separate exits and entrances, but you can go back and forth in the viewing platform. Since we arrived too early, there were not many people on the viewing platform. If it was the peak tourist season, it might be difficult to go back and forth.

If you have a single-day ticket, you can only enter here once, so you have to play enough before going to the plank road down the mountain. There is still a distance between the plank road down the mountain and the viewing platform. You have to leave the viewing platform and go forward about 20 meters to reach the entrance of the plank road down the mountain. The plank road down the mountain is not very long. There are many small viewing platforms and viewing pavilions in the middle where you can rest. It takes about 15 minutes to go down the mountain to the bottom, but going up the mountain is another matter.

We walked and took photos, and soon we reached the viewing platform on the bottom level. Since we were not in a hurry, we decided to rest here. During this time, we were still struggling whether to wait for the sunset here, because photographers had already started to take positions along the way, or started playing cards nearby, waiting for the sunset. After struggling for a while, we still lost to the 5-hour waiting time. The sunset of Tiger Mouth will be left to the future.

We arrived at Laohuzui at about 5:30 pm. As soon as we drove to the top of the mountain from the winding mountain road, we saw a hole in the clouds above the terraces. Light slanted out from the hole, forming what we call the "Jesus light". At that moment, I knew that we were lucky this time and would definitely be able to produce a blockbuster. A beam of light happened to hit the village in the distance. When I blinked, I thought it was a god descending to earth to bring some good wishes to the village!

The upper left corner of Laohuzui is the iconic attraction of Yuanyang Rice Terraces, which once appeared on the cover of "National Geographic China". The sunset view here is unique.

When the terraces are fallow, they are filled with water, and as the clouds change in the evening, the clouds and colors reflected on the water also change. Standing there, the landscape is different every moment, whether it is the change of clouds or the rhythm of light and shadow. Every time you press the shutter, you will always get full of surprises.

The Laohuzui Terraces are located in a valley about ten kilometers away from Xinjie Town. The road is halfway up the mountain, and you can overlook the terraces from a high place. It is suitable for taking photos in the evening.

Before leaving, I did some research. The internet mentioned that the most famous sunsets in Yuanyang are at Laohuzui and Bada Terraces. According to our plan, we were delayed on the way and arrived in Yuanyang at sunset. We didn't have time to rest at the inn we had booked, so we went directly to Laohuzui, the farthest point in the scenic area. Another spectacular thing about watching the sunset at Laohuzui is the tourists who come here because of its reputation. We arrived here at about five o'clock that day. The viewing platform was already crowded. Not to mention the best position, the slightly better angles were already occupied by cameras. However, due to the geographical location (Yunnan is located in the west, with a time difference of nearly two hours compared to Beijing time), it was still a long time before the real sunset.

By sunflower |

The scenic area is very large. The Duoyishu Terraces are suitable for watching the sunrise, and the Laohuzui Terraces are suitable for watching the sunset.

By Yao 11 |

Watching the sunset at Tiger's Mouth is a name card of Yuanyang Rice Terraces. The terraces are large in scale and magnificent in appearance; they are rich in colors and have a strong three-dimensional sense; and they also have a mysterious name "Tiger's Mouth", which attracts more tourists to explore.

The Laohuzui Terraces are located on a relatively flat land in a deep valley. The whole field looks like a huge flower stamen. More than 3,000 acres of terraces are crisscrossed, one after another, in various shapes.

At sunset, the clouds on the terraces are denser, and rays of light are sprinkled in the sky, as if awakening the sleeping creatures of nature and spreading a golden veil.

By The Sky on the Other Shore |

If the time is right (start waiting around 5pm) and the weather is clear, you should go to the viewing platform to see it. However, you need to buy a multi-day viewing ticket. Otherwise, if you finish the viewing on the same day and don't have time to see the whole thing the next day, your visit will be wasted. Seeing the Yuanyang Terraces depends on luck. Even if you stay for a week, you may not be able to see the sunrise and sunset; if you come for 2 days, you can still see all the scenic spots. (I am the latter.)

By us |

There was a power outage on the 2nd... The entire Lao Hu Zui area was without power...

There are large terraced fields here, and there are many people selling baked potatoes and clothing at the viewing point. They also provide paid guides, so you can see a similar sunset without being at the viewing point. We have never been used to this kind of behavior, so we had lunch here and left (we originally planned to stay for one night, but had to leave early because there was no electricity. We left late because we were afraid of the mountain road. It turned out to be right, as two places were blocked for 1 and a half hours due to road construction)

By Angel Wings |

It was a pity that I didn't see the sunset because it was cloudy. The viewing platform was far from the ticket gate. It took a long time to walk up the stairs to get there. It was really tiring. The local villagers asked for 30 yuan for roadside parking. It wasn't like they were parking in their fields. But I didn't want to cause trouble when I was out. Hey, what's the difference between them and bandits?

By Travel and Photography Without Borders |

In the afternoon, I came to Laohuzui Terraces to wait for the sunset. Suddenly, a violent storm came. I thought there was no hope. But God opened his eyes and the clouds and fog dissipated at sunset. The terraces under the sunset seemed like a song [naughty]

When we went there, the terraces were filled with water. The colors were particularly rich and beautiful, and the terraces were very stunning!

There are more than 6,000 mu of terraced fields in Laohuzui, which are distributed in the deep valley. The Tiger Mouth Terraces can be described as endless, connected and boundless. It is shaped like a huge stamen, with more than 6,000 mu of terraces in different shapes, like thousands of snakes lying quietly among the stamens. Under the sunlight, it looks like blue waves falling from the sky, waves rising, and thousands of snakes wriggling. The terraces at the lowest point are the most eye-catching.

In the afterglow of the setting sun, the red, white and black colors complement each other, dazzling the eyes, as if silently telling people the vicissitudes of the history of the Hani ancestors in cultivating terraced fields.

I watched the sunset twice, but it was not as stunning as the sunrise at Duoyishu.

It was already past 5pm when we arrived at Laohuzui. It took more than ten minutes to get from the ticket gate to the observation deck. If you are slow, it may take 20 minutes. Please pay attention to your time.

The Laohuzui Observation Deck is not very big. When we went there it was past five o'clock and there were no good seats left, so we had to run around looking for a spot. In the end we still couldn't find a good spot and could only make do with taking a few pictures. However, the weather was not good that day and there were no beautiful views. However, the lines of the Laohuzui are indeed the most beautiful in the whole Yuanyang. From certain angles, it looks like an oil painting.

There are many earth slopes next to the viewing platform of Laohuzui Terraces. Locals have to wait and pay to enter. The view there seems to be better. Friends who go there specifically for photography can consider it.

After getting off the bus at Tiger Mouth, you need to walk for about 10 minutes to get down to the viewing platform. It's not bad to go down the mountain here, but it's late when you return, so be careful. In addition, there are local ethnic sisters on the viewing platform who will enthusiastically help you carry your luggage up the mountain. If necessary, bargain. There are multiple viewing platforms, each with its own advantages. You can walk around more when taking pictures to change the scenery.

There is no formal parking lot on the roadside. Villagers waved to park their cars. It costs 10 yuan if you don't watch the sunset, and 20 yuan if you watch the sunset.

I rushed to Laohuzui early in the afternoon, but still encountered a traffic jam. The car stopped 3 kilometers away from the scenic spot and I had to walk there. After I finished taking pictures, I saw traffic police clearing the traffic. In addition, a local woman stopped the car and forced me to sell eggs. There was no price.

The sunset at Tiger Mouth is very famous, and the terraced fields are also the most spectacular.

The public facilities in these remote areas of Yunnan are definitely not as good as those in cities. There is a gap here. If you give 30 yuan to a local, he will take you into the scenic area. The scenery is still very beautiful. Aerial photography or telephoto photography may produce more beautiful pictures.

Tiger's Mouth is the place to watch the sunset, but unfortunately our lens was not wide enough and we failed to capture the majesty of Tiger's Mouth.

By Zheng Zizai |

The scenery of Laohuzui Terraces is beyond words, especially the sunset is very famous. We were unlucky on the day we went there, there was a thin mist, and we didn't see the most beautiful sunset.

It is said that there is a tiger and a horse in a tiger's mouth. I saw the horse by myself, but I saw the tiger with the help of others, and I don't know if it is correct.

The best viewing platform for taking sunset photos. There are two viewing platforms, the lower one is the best for taking sunset photos.

By Saha |

Last night, I drove for 10 hours from Bamei to Tiger Mouth of Yuanyang Rice Terraces. All I saw along the way were the wonders of nature, and the Hani rice terraces were refreshing. When I thought about the fact that these densely packed water terraces along the mountain were all artificially cultivated, I couldn't help but marvel at the diligence and wisdom of the working people. Maybe we came at the wrong season, so we didn't see the blue terraces reflecting the blue sky. What we saw were the terraces under the strong light of everyone and everyone.

We arrived just before sunset, around 4:30. There were huge crowds of people and serious traffic jams. We walked for several kilometers to get to the entrance of the scenic area. As a scenic area, Yuanyang Rice Terraces is not well planned. The roads are narrow, and there are so many private cars and tourist buses and trucks coming in and out, the road-to-car ratio is seriously unbalanced. In addition, some private cars drove in the opposite direction and parked randomly on the roadside to take pictures, causing traffic congestion. Tourists can only get off the car and walk on the narrow road. With such chaos, charging 100 yuan for admission is still too expensive.

The Laohuzui Terraces are famous for their large area and large elevation difference. It was raining and foggy the day I went there, so I thought I couldn't see the terraces. But after driving over a hill, the sun came out! The sunlight shone through the thick clouds and onto the terraces, which was really beautiful.

Although this season is not the best time to view the Red River Hani Rice Terraces, the emerald green mountain terraces, although not as colorful as those after the autumn harvest, are still as majestic and picturesque as ever. The wisps of white clouds entwined between the mountains add a touch of softness and aura to these majestic mountains.

The scenery of the Laohuzui Scenic Area is magnificent, and the terraces have a large height difference. Standing on the high observation deck, you can take aerial photos.

I only took pictures at the first viewing platform, which has a wide field of view and can accommodate far more people than the second viewing platform.

I couldn't see the shape of the tiger's mouth no matter how I looked at it... My imagination is so weak... But because this is the first point in Yuanyang, it is really shocking at first glance. Of course, there are a lot of people. There are still 2 hours before sunset, and everyone has armed themselves with long guns and short guns on the plank road. Because I am a photographer who is just a soy sauce, mainly to see the scenery, so I don't have too many requirements for the location. I went to the lower observation deck. It is said that the scenery on the upper observation deck is also good. You can go early and walk around by yourself to repeatedly experience which camera position is good.

Tiger Mouth is a place to watch the sunset. There are two viewing platforms, one up and one down, both worth seeing. The two platforms are about 15 minutes away from each other by mountain road. The viewing platforms are all made of wood, and they shake when you walk fast. Some people on the platforms use tripods to take pictures, so you have to walk lightly, otherwise the photos will be ineffective.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces are a masterpiece left by the Hani people on the mountains for survival. They are large in scale, magnificent, magical and magnificent. Looking at the Tiger Mouth Rice Terraces from afar, the strong visual shock cannot be expressed in words. The terraces are built on the mountain, layer by layer, from the top of the mountain to the bottom of the valley. This attraction should be the largest, with two viewing platforms. It takes a long time to walk, and the terraced landscape is similar to the others. I can't see what the connection is with Tiger's Mouth. Can anyone explain it to me?

Beautiful! I believe it will be even more beautiful if the season is right!!

It is a scenic spot suitable for watching the sunset. Unfortunately, the sun was blocked by thick clouds at sunset. After entering the scenic spot, walk to the left and follow the stairs to experience the forest atmosphere with swaying tree shadows. There are small commodities and fruits sold on the roadside. Taiwan's Bala is sold here. It is super delicious. On the right hand side is a platform, the best place to watch the sunset. If it is a sunny day, it must be very beautiful.
