It has a history of more than 1,200 years and is large in scale. It is a masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation and is known as "the most beautiful mountain carving in China."
It consists of 4 parts: Bada Scenic Area, Laohuzui Scenic Area, Duoyishu Scenic Area and Jingkou Scenic Area. When you come to Yuanyang Hani Rice Terraces, you can see the magnificent sunrise and sunset of the terraces and the unique customs of the Hani villages.
The most special thing about Duoyishu Rice Terraces is the golden clouds. Because they are often covered by fog, a magnificent view of rosy clouds will be formed at sunrise. The rosy clouds and the colorful clouds are reflected in the rice terraces, making it one of the favorite places for photographers.

The natural scenery is great, go and visit, it's best to drive there yourself.
If you don’t need professional photography, you don’t need to buy tickets to enter the scenic spot. There are many observation decks along the way for free sightseeing;
As long as the weather and light are good, you are the photographer and it is not difficult to take photos that satisfy yourself (we don’t care whether others are satisfied or not).
Yuanyang Rice Terraces is a large area, with a ticket price of 70 yuan per ticket (free for people over 60 years old), which includes four attractions: Bada, Duoyishu, Laohuzui, and Qingkou Folk Village. Bada and Laohuzui are the best places to watch the sunset, and Duoyishu is the best place to watch the sunrise.
The best time to take photos of the Yuanyang Rice Terraces is from November to April of the following year, because the terraces will be filled with water after the autumn harvest until the rice planting in the following year. At this time, the terraces have a strong sense of layering and sparkle under the sunlight. Many photos of the terraces we see on the Internet were taken during this period. In winter, the undulating terraces appear and disappear in the gaps of the fog, presenting a misty and ink painting-like pastoral scene, which makes you feel like you are in a dreamland.
Yuanyang Hani Terraces have been successfully listed as a World Heritage Site. Entering the scenic area, you can follow the road along the mountain, going up and down, turning left and right, and there are beautiful scenery all the way.
There were just so many tourists! Many photographers, armed with their cameras and tripods, had set up their positions hours before, waiting for the sunset.
Tickets for the terraced fields scenic area are divided into single-day tickets, three-day tickets and one-week tickets. Many people come here to take pictures of the sunset and sunrise, and continue to do so the next day and the day after. They are really obsessed with it.
Yuanyang Rice Terraces are perhaps the most attractive in this season. The terraces have just been filled with water, and rice seedlings have not yet been planted. The terraces are shining in the sunlight. If the rice seedlings have been planted, there will be no such effect.
In fact, the Yuanyang Rice Terraces are a water conservancy project of the Hani people. It is a rule for the use of water for farmland irrigation. The terraces are a distribution of water resources. Every household abides by this rule very consciously, from ancient times to the present, passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years.
However, now it has become a world-famous tourist attraction, so it is overcrowded, noisy, bustling, crowded, disorderly and dirty. It is estimated that most people who come here will lose interest in visiting.
As the photos show, are there many people coming to see the Yuanyang Rice Terraces? Too many, three layers inside and three layers outside, all waiting to take pictures of the sunset, it's really not easy!
Goodbye, let’s go down the mountain and stop taking pictures.
The above is the report.
At present, it is still relatively primitive. There were not many people when we went there. The overall service is pretty good, but the sanitary conditions and safety facilities need to be improved. As for accommodation, there are already good B&Bs for everyone to choose from. The food is quite distinctive, but the variety is not rich, because many supplies in the mountains still face logistics problems, and the prices are expensive.
I went there for the first time in December 2014. It was very good. The price was cheap and the quality was good. The three-day package was 60 yuan. I stayed there for three days and visited several representative places under the guidance of the tour guide. I thought about coming again. This time, the price has gone up, but the service has not kept up. Tiger Mouth charges an additional 100 yuan and is closed due to landslides. I wanted to go to Duoyishu the next day, but I didn't go for various reasons. I only saw Bada. Everyone who came with me wanted to leave, so we left. The scenery is so beautiful. I may come again next time, but I don't know when. If it's still like this next time, I won't buy a ticket.
Speaking of Yuanyang Rice Terraces in the evening, the world heritage has never disappointed me. The BBC once spared no effort to edit a lot of footage of the Hani Rice Terraces into the masterpiece Wild China, which made the Western world admire the sky and cloud shadows of our terraces. Looking from afar at the beautiful curves built and managed by the Hani people for thousands of years, there is an illusion that the ground is covered with snow.
I fell in love with Yuanyang as soon as I visited there.
After traveling to many places, you will feel that they are all similar, with only the customs and cultures being slightly different. But in fact, they are all similar. For many places, you will feel that after visiting them once, you would not come back a second time if it were not for work reasons.
But Yuanrang makes people feel that although it takes six or seven hours to drive here, if they have the chance, they really want to stay here for a week.
I built my house in a human world, but without the noise of carriages and horses.
How can you do this? The mind is far away and the place is far away.
This place is really remote, so it is really quiet.
Many villages still retain their original flavor. Old ladies in ethnic clothes carry baskets and shuttle through the country paths. If you listen carefully, you can hear chickens crowing before dawn, the bells hanging on cows' necks ringing, and there are the cowherds' light shouts and whip sounds. It sounds like someone is knocking on the door. Turning around, you will find a black pig eating happily by the wall.
Many people in the village don't speak Mandarin, but they are simple and lovely, gesturing seriously, wanting to communicate with you. Everyone is warm-hearted. My box is so heavy that I have a hard time carrying it, but the girl in my hotel took it and carried it to the third floor without taking a breath. She doesn't speak Mandarin, but she works quickly and cooks delicious food, which makes people feel comfortable.
There were few cars on the road, all of them were tourists from other places. The villagers rode horses or drove donkeys, and carried things on their shoulders or hands. It was very interesting for a girl like me who had lived in the city all my life and had never been to the countryside. I took pictures of horses and pigs. Maybe they were surprised to see me. This girl was really ignorant and seemed to have never seen anything...
There are no photos, but I made a small video. In it, you can see the terraced fields, the plowing oxen, hear the bells on the oxen's necks, and hear the laughter of a little girl washing clothes in the spring water.
I really saw the whole process of the clouds and mist fading away. First, a gust of wind blew away the water vapor in front of my eyes, revealing the outline of the ridge of the field, and then I saw that the fog within a range of 40 meters in my field of vision floated upwards. The near distance was extremely clear and bright, and the collision of the south wind and the north wind in the distance rolled up the sea of clouds.
The result of this wait was very satisfying. In just... half an hour... the sky and earth in front of me cleared up. Strangely enough, the originally bare branches seemed full of vitality under the background of the mist.
Some ponds are covered with red duckweed, which is intertwined with yellow mud pools and dark green weeds. The arrangement is dense and well-proportioned, with appropriate shades of light and dark. It is truly a freehand painting by a god's magic brush.
Yuanyang is a county under the jurisdiction of Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. The entire county is mountainous, with no flat land and a maximum altitude of nearly 3,000 meters. For thousands of years, the Hani people have thrived here. The smart and hardworking Hani people have adapted to local conditions and cultivated thousands of acres of land, ranging from several acres to as small as a winnowing basket, to provide the source of life for people. In this way, the Hani people have been "carving" landscape paintings endlessly, leaving behind masterpieces of human engineering from generation to generation, and have been successfully included in the World Cultural Heritage List. The Hani Terraces in Yuanyang, as a representative work of Yunnan Terraces, are also the core area of the Honghe Hani Terraces. The terraces here are built on the mountains, continuous, large-scale and spectacular. It is known as "the most beautiful mountain carving in China." Climb to the top of the terraces, and you will see the ever-changing sea of clouds, the looming villages on the hillside, and the magnificent terraces. The scenery will change with the ethereal light and fog, forming a beautiful landscape painting. It has always been a paradise of light and shadow for photography enthusiasts. What you see now is the 1,300 years of the Hani people!
The terraced fields in Yuanyang were my last stop in Honghe, and they were also the scenery I had been longing to see for a long time. It took about four and a half hours to drive from Jianshui to the terraced fields (this section of road only looked like a few dozen kilometers on the map, but it was a winding mountain road and extremely difficult to walk). I went there in the car of the youth hostel owner Lao Zhu, who provided chartered car services to the Yuanyang terraced fields.
Drive past Xinjie Town, the old county town of Yuanyang, and then drive along a winding mountain road to reach the core area of Yuanyang Terraces. From Jingkou all the way to Duoyishu Village, you can see large tracts of terraces. When I first saw the terraces, I was simply shocked beyond words. There were terraces of various shapes in front of me.
Walking down a half-person-wide path behind Dayutang Village, the scenery in the mist gradually took shape. The road to the depths of the terraces is another frustrating road after Horton Plains: sometimes stepping on a muddy path on the edge of the terraces that is one foot wide, and sometimes stepping on an uneven gravel path with slopes + steep stairs + flowing water. You never know when you will slip into the fields... It is said that the previous teams were injured, so we were very moved that all of us could complete it safely~ After climbing up the mountainside with difficulty, the mist finally dissipated gradually; the terraces without irrigation are still beautiful~ It is worth everyone's full expectations (from November to March of the following year is the irrigation period. If you want to appreciate the beautiful terraces on the Internet, you can consider coming during this time period).
The Yuanyang Rice Terraces are located in the southern part of Ailao Mountain in Yuanyang County, Yunnan Province. They are a masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation.
On June 22, 2013, at the 37th World Heritage Conference, the Red River Hani Rice Terraces were successfully included in the World Heritage List, becoming China's 45th World Heritage Site, making China surpass Spain to become the second largest World Heritage country, second only to Italy.
The Yuanyang Rice Terraces are so beautiful, and it’s so shocking to be there!
Yuanyang Rice Terraces is a general term, including Duoyishu, Yingzuiyan, Aicun and so on. Duoyishu needs to be taken early and late. There are a lot of people in January and February, and the photos taken are basically the same for everyone. If you have a camera and know a little about photography, you can basically take good photos. My personal favorite is the Azheke Rice Terraces, which is a niche attraction. There are very few people, because you have to hike up and down the mountain, the location is remote, and you don’t know where to go without a local guide. This time I encountered a rare sea of clouds. Very good! 👍👍👍
If you are a photography enthusiast or you are in the attachment, you can still go and have a look
The scenery is super beautiful. It is worthy of being the most beautiful village. It is worth staying for two more days to appreciate it in all aspects. March is the best time. The weather in February is changeable and there is more fog.
The Yuanyang Rice Terraces are located in the southern part of Ailao Mountain in Yuanyang County, Yunnan Province. They are a masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation.
When you are there, you will be shocked and inexplicably moved. At this moment, any language is superfluous.
The Hani Rice Terraces, a world cultural heritage site, has a history of more than 1,200 years. It is a masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation and is known as "the most beautiful mountain sculpture in China". It is worth the trip. It is completely different from the Longji Rice Terraces in Guilin in September.
The terraced fields are quite spectacular, especially the Duoyi Tree at sunrise and the Laohuzui at sunset. However, the road is really difficult to walk on, and it takes a long time to walk along the winding mountain road.
Because the terraces are still in use, most of them are located in villages and stockades. It is extremely difficult to pass or meet other cars on the country roads, and the road conditions are poor. Therefore, it is not recommended to visit during holidays. However, the scenery is pleasant and photography enthusiasts are recommended to go there for long-term field trips.
Come to Yuanyang to see the Hani Rice Terraces and the spectacular sunrise and sunset over the terraces, especially the golden clouds and the spectacular sight of the sun rising in the east.
There was fog in the mountains, so I couldn't see through the colorful terraces. But I thought it was beautiful, and nature gave vivid colors to the scenery built by humans for survival.
Sunset at Tiger Mouth
Sunrise at Duoyishu
Sea of fog and sea of clouds
Decorate this deep land with splendor
A scenery that makes your hands tremble
When I went there the day before, cold air was about to arrive. The right time and place can create such a beautiful scenery.
I've been there three times and I still miss it.
The terraced fields all over the mountains are really shocking. The best place to watch the sunset is in Bada Scenic Area, but there is really nothing to see in summer.
One person's terrace
The driver from the Yi ethnic group said that it was not the best season for Yuanyang now, as the rice was ripe, so we could not see the light and shadow of the terraces filled with water. But for me, it was not important whether it was an ink painting or an oil painting. The key was that I was in the painting. I preferred the latter to no water and no people, so I chose to go to Yuanyang in the off-season.
What surprised me was that, as a world cultural heritage, I had seen too many comments saying that people had to start scrambling for camera positions at 5 a.m., but there was really no one on the viewing platform in early September. For me, who is not a photographer, the terraces are not much different, but my mood will fluctuate depending on the flow of people. I was happy, standing on the high ground, waving to the villagers who were harvesting rice in the fields ~ Hello, fellow villagers ~ You have worked hard.
Thanks to the great leader for giving me the holiday for the Victory Day of the Anti-Japanese War that year. This was the military parade I watched alone.
As a child from the mountainous area of Guizhou, I am used to seeing paddy fields and clouds. Such scenery is not very attractive to me. I am too lazy to take pictures. It depends on your hobbies whether you like it or not. Anyway, I am not interested. This time I came with a tour group. I would not choose a self-driving tour. The silver jewelry in Hani Town is really cheap. Bracelets are 200, earrings are 40, and necklaces are 100. The service attitude is good, five stars
At present, the Tiger Mouth Scenic Area cannot be seen. The other three attractions are very beautiful and worth visiting.
The terraces here follow the terrain and are built according to local conditions. Large fields are cultivated on gentle slopes and small fields are cultivated on steep slopes. Even the stone gaps under the ditches are fully utilized. Therefore, the large terraces can reach several mu, while the small ones are only as big as a winnowing basket. Often, there are tens of thousands of mu of land on one slope, which is very spectacular.
The terraced fields have different beauty in different seasons, but the best season to view them is between November and March of the following year, because the terraced fields need to be filled with water for maintenance after the autumn harvest. The terraced fields have a strong sense of layering during this season, and they sparkle in the soft sunlight at sunrise and sunset, which is beautiful beyond words.
Currently, the Yuanyang Rice Terraces Scenic Area mainly has the following attractions: Laohuzui Rice Terraces and Bada Rice Terraces are suitable for watching the sunset, Duoyishu Scenic Area is suitable for watching the sunrise, Jingkou Folk Village mainly displays the Hani culture, and there are also attractions such as Aichun Blue Rice Terraces and Eagle's Beak Red Rice Terraces.
I fell in love with this place right away - Yuanyang Rice Terraces, which is truly integrated into the scenery of the houses in the deep mountains. I can't help but wish I could live here forever (but in fact, it is so humid here that the quilt feels like it is soaked in water, so I have to keep the electric blanket on. Most of the people in the village are left behind, including elderly people, women and children. It can be seen that the village is quite backward, and there are not many small shops for buying things. Convenient modern life and returning to the original scenery are always a contradiction). Yuanyang unexpectedly suits my taste. I thought it was another trip with a photography enthusiast. I was in a daze on the rooftop, watching the clouds and mist. The rice fields and valleys had a sense of otherworldly tranquility.
It is worth a visit, and it is best to go in November. The air is very good along the way, and there is a feeling of returning to nature. But even if you keep going around the mountain road, you can still feel a lot of Hani culture and characteristics.
Azheke, the Hani village in Yuanyang, is forgotten by the world and is breathtakingly beautiful!
Previous guides all recommended that the period around the Spring Festival is the most suitable time. My personal opinion is slightly different. During the Spring Festival, because the rice fields are irrigated, it can be said that it is the best combination of light and shadow. In the early morning or at dusk, there will be different visual effects under different refractions. This can be said to be a paradise for photographers. The terraces are relatively indifferent during the day, but the Doi Shu terraces are very shocking.
Recommended index four stars
When I first saw the Yuanyang Rice Terraces, I was amazed that the Hani people are indeed the sculptors of nature. At the same time, I also felt a kind of alpine barrenness. People can only build terraces on the mountains to maximize the use of water resources. This has been passed down from generation to generation, forming such a spectacular terraced scenery.
After the Chinese New Year is the peak season for the Yuanyang Rice Terraces. Because it is the water filling period, the color of the water reflecting the sky is ever-changing and very beautiful, but good weather is hard to come by.
The rice terraces had not yet been planted, and the water surface reflected the skylight, shining like a mirror. People were waiting for the sun to rise in the west, waiting for the last rays of the sun to coat the mirror with gold.
The entire terraced field scenic area is very large. The Duoyishu Terraces are suitable for watching the sunrise, and the Laohuzui Terraces are suitable for watching the sunset.
Set off at 6 o'clock in the morning to watch the sunrise at Duoyishu Rice Terraces. If you are lucky, you can see the sea of clouds at Jingkou Rice Terraces. Then go to Aichun to see the beautiful blue rice terraces, and then to the ancient ethnic minority village Azheke to experience the ethnic customs. Finally, go to Bada Laohuzui to watch the sunset in the evening!
The mountains in the distance, like clouds and smoke, are attached to the blue sky.
The terraces built on the mountain are winding from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. In spring, the terraces are shrouded in mist, picturesque and like a fairyland. The terraces are the mirror of the sky, and the water in the terraces reflects the blue sky. At this time, if you stand on a high place and look around, you can see the blue sky and white clouds above and the blue terraces below, just like a hada, rolling freely, and the layers of terraces are rippling.
The towering mountains are reflected in the water, hazy and green, as if it is a glass world, a green dream.
Yuanyang Rice Terraces is the general name for the rice terraces in Yuanyang area of Honghe. It is a sculpture of the earth and a place worth visiting. Go and see it before the airport is built. Once the transportation is convenient, there will be too many people and it will not be so beautiful!
A visual feast - watching the sunrise from Duoyishu
We arrived at Duoyishu at 6 am. The viewing platforms were crowded with people. All kinds of cameras were adjusted with angles and parameters, waiting for the exciting moment. In an instant, golden light emerged, and the sound of shutters in the quiet world recorded every moment of change. There was also a passionate heart that deeply imprinted the picture with every moment of change.
China's Yuanyang! The world's Yuanyang!
The terraces here are relatively flat. Under the direct sunlight in the afternoon, the water in the terraces reflects the blue sky, which is the so-called "water is bluer than the sky". Under the sunlight, the terraces are "rimmed" with gold.
The Hani terraces are mainly planted with rice, and only one crop of rice is planted each year. Rice seedlings are planted in April and harvested in October. After harvesting, the Hani people leave the rice stalks in the fields and irrigate them at the end of October to allow the rice stalks to rot and ferment in the fields to conserve soil fertility. Therefore, the best viewing period for the Hani terraces is from the end of October to April of the following year.
The red color of the terraces comes from duckweed in the water. The red duckweed grows naturally during the off-season and provides food for ducks. When the rice seedlings are grown in spring, it becomes a good fertilizer for the rice seedlings.
My companion said that this is the only terraced field with banana trees in the entire Red River terraced field.
From top to bottom, the Hani people built their homes in the order of forests, villages, terraces, and rivers. Clouds formed by a large amount of water vapor evaporation condense into rainwater when encountering cold air masses and sprinkle in the forest. The rainwater is absorbed by forest plants and stored as surface water and groundwater, forming springs, streams, and pools, which provide sufficient water sources for the Hani people's daily life and terrace farming. This is what the locals mean by "how high the mountain is, how high the water is." "Water-fog-rain-water" forms a closed loop here, which is endless. Forests, villages, terraces, and rivers are harmoniously unified and symbiotic and complementary. Mountains, water, and people meet through terraces, blend and coexist, reflecting the unique survival wisdom of the Hani people. The two villages inside are the owners of this terrace.
The terraces in Yuanyang are partly caused by the many natural factors of topography, landform and climate. The abundant rainfall is suitable for terraced rice cultivation, and the sea of clouds is particularly spectacular. However, the most shocking thing is the lifelong cultivation of the Hani people. Deep in the mountains, thousands of terraces and ditches and canals entwine the mountains layer by layer. With amazing and lasting courage and wisdom, they have created such a spectacular and shocking earth painting for more than 1,400 years. They take measures according to local conditions and take advantage of the situation. Large fields are built on gentle slopes and small fields are built on steep slopes. They extend from high to low, level by level, in an orderly and neat manner.
The ticket is 100 yuan, and it is 95 yuan if you book online. Yuanyang Rice Terraces mainly consists of four parts: Bada Scenic Area, Laohuzui Scenic Area, Duoyishu Scenic Area, and Jingkou Scenic Area. Tickets are required for these four scenic spots, but there are many scenic spots that do not require tickets and are also very good. Therefore, it is best to drive yourself to Yuanyang, which is free and convenient. From the ticket gate of Laohuzui Scenic Area, you have to walk down a long flight of steps to the depths of the terraces to watch the sunset. At this time, the viewing platform is already full of long guns and short guns. Looking around, it is not easy to get a position, and then you dare not run around. If you want to take a blockbuster, the location is still very important, so you should go early and walk around to see what position you should choose.
As the sun and the clouds play hide-and-seek, the light is constantly changing, and the terraces present different light and shadows. Under the afterglow of the setting sun, it is as poetic as a painting, and it really lives up to its reputation. Standing on a high place and looking into the distance, it is like a pile of ribbons stacked together, stacked up and connected to the mountains, which makes people sigh at the courage and determination of human beings to conquer nature!
It takes less than an hour to drive from Yuanyang County to the terraced field scenic area. Along the way, you can see the sea of clouds and the sunrise above the clouds. You can buy tickets at the scenic area for 100 yuan each. There are four scenic areas to enter: Jingkou, Bada, Laohuzui, and Duoyishu. There is no time limit. You need to punch a hole at the entrance of each scenic area. Sometimes there is no one to check the ticket. If you don’t punch the hole, you can come again.
A masterpiece left by the Hani people through generations of reclamation
The entire scenic area is punched with Tiger Mouth, Duoyi Tree, Bada and Qingkou as the drilling points.
If you don't go to these four scenic spots,
You don't need to buy tickets for the scenic spot at all
The distances between scenic spots are quite far, most of them are more than ten kilometers.
There is no shuttle bus to the scenic area. It is hard for me, a lone backpacker.
Sometimes the scenery you see along the way is quite stunning...
The most beautiful terraced fields, a miracle of human labor, a masterpiece of natural light
[Yuanyang Rice Terraces] Yuanyang Rice Terraces is a test of your photography skills, light and shadow, color, lines, contrast, dynamics, focal length, visual center... These elements are all very important, but there is also an important prerequisite [good character! ]
I met a friend who had been staying at a hostel in Yuanyang for ten days. It was cloudy, rainy and foggy every day. I couldn't even see the terraced fields clearly. It wasn't until the day I went there that I saw the first sunrise! Yuanyang is beautiful, and you must wait for the sunrise and sunset.
Even if you don't go to the observation deck, you can find many equally classic locations. Blue terraces, red terraces, and high mountain sea of clouds are spread throughout the scenic area waiting for you to discover. After seeing the natural scenery, you can also go to the local market and see the interesting sight of a chicken in the left hand, a duck in the right hand, and a fat baby on the back.
The Yuanyang Rice Terraces are quite spectacular. With good weather, we should be able to produce some good pictures. I also give a thumbs up to the hardworking people who have transformed nature into such a beautiful and colorful place, and are self-sufficient. It's really amazing. Although the road here is not easy to walk, it's worth it for the beautiful scenery.
Very beautiful, but it's a pity that it's foggy! ! ! ! ~100 yuan toll... No comment
It was already afternoon when we arrived at the scenic spot. We first went to Yuanyang Rice Terraces and then to Tiger Mouth. However, it was still early for sunset and we returned to the inn we had already booked.
Yuanyang Rice Terraces is a masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation. Its beauty cannot be described in words! It is best to drive to Yuanyang. You should pay attention to the following points:
1. There are sea of clouds in Yuanyang almost every day in February, and visibility is very poor. Self-driving friends need to drive carefully.
2. The weather in Yuanyang is changeable, so it is recommended to stay in an inn in the scenic area and stay for a few more days to avoid missing out on the scenery you want to see.
3. The accommodation and dining conditions in Yuanyang Scenic Area are relatively poor, so you need to be mentally prepared and do the corresponding work in advance.
4. Due to the early development of terraced field tourism, some Hani people have lost their simple folk customs. In particular, some Hani children will actively ask for money when they see tourists. Never give them money. If this goes on for a long time, it will undoubtedly harm their lives and will also destroy the terraced fields that were created for the Hani people!
5. When viewing the terraced fields, you don’t have to stick to a few scenic spots. You will find many new discoveries if you walk around more. It is best to drive yourself.
6. Friends who drive to the terraced fields need to fill up the gas in Yuanyang County in advance, as there is no gas station in the scenic area.
It's a long, long walk! It's tiring! But the sunset is beautiful there!
The masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation has been listed as a World Heritage Site. The terraced fields are mostly concentrated near Xinjie Town, the old county town of Yuanyang. Kunming is a six-hour drive from Nansha and an eight-hour drive from Xinjie. There are more buses from Kunming South Bus Station to Nansha, and fewer buses go directly to Xinjie. The scenic spots in Yuanyang Terraces are widely distributed, and most of them are for shooting sunrise and sunset, suitable for self-driving or chartered tours. The beauty of Yuanyang Terraces requires the cooperation of weather. It is not beautiful on sunny days, nor is it necessarily not beautiful on rainy days. Instead, it requires the appropriate combination of clouds, fog, and light to see the beautiful terraces, and different terraces will have completely different views at different times of the day. Therefore, to take beautiful terraced photos, you need to choose the right time and go to the right place according to the changes in light on the spot. It is best to have someone who is familiar with local weather changes and understands photography to guide you.
Yuanyang County is full of mountains and all terraces are built on the hillsides, with a slope of 15 to 75 degrees. For a hillside, the highest number of terraces is 3,000, which is rare in terraced landscapes at home and abroad. Yuanyang Hani Terraces mainly have three major scenic spots: Bada Scenic Spot includes more than 14,000 acres of terraces in Jingkou, Quanfu Village, Mali Village, Zhulu, etc., Laohuzui Scenic Spot includes nearly 6,000 acres of terraces in Mengpin, Dongpu, Amengkong, Baoshanzhai, etc., and Duoyishu Scenic Spot includes Duoyishu, Aichun, Dawazha, etc., with more than 10,000 acres of terraces. So many terraces, in the shade of the vast forest and covered by the endless sea of clouds, constitute a magical and magnificent landscape.
The ever-changing, pure and pristine beauty was what we saw during the Spring Festival in 2017.
We went to Yuanyang Rice Terraces on a whim. Due to landslides on the road during the rainy season, we were able to take a detour. After a bumpy ride we finally arrived at the Duoyishu Scenic Area and stayed there. The inn on the fourth floor had floor-to-ceiling windows, from which we could see the entire rice terraces.
In one word, beautiful! No matter what season you go, you will have different scenery and different feelings.
The scenery was beautiful. We also traveled by car. The drive was very torturous every time we went. The weather was not good when we went there. There was heavy fog in several places. We couldn't see anything and it was quite cold. But the scenery we could see did not disappoint us.
The scenery is really beautiful. When we went there, the weather was not very good and it was foggy, but we still saw many terraced fields.
Laohuzui is the best place to watch the sunset, and Duoyishu is the best place to watch the sunrise.
Each scenic spot in Yuanyang Rice Terraces has its own characteristics. Laohuzui and Bada Rice Terraces are good places to watch the sunset. If you are lucky around April, you can also see the sunset over the sea of clouds. Duoyishu Rice Terraces is a good place to watch the sunrise.
In the village, I kept encountering little friends who forced me and my girlfriend to buy eggs. They have lost the innocence that they should have at this age and have been tainted with the smell of money. I met the cute little Abu at noon. This is the smile and innocence that the children here should have.
Yuanyang Rice Terraces are a masterpiece left by the Hani people from generation to generation. The terraces cultivated by the Hani people in Yuanyang follow the terrain of the mountains and adapt to local conditions. They cultivate large fields on gentle slopes and small fields on steep slopes. They even cultivate fields in the gaps between rocks at the edge of ditches. Therefore, the large terraces are several acres, and the small ones are only as big as a winnowing basket. Often there are tens of thousands of acres on one slope. It was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2013. Here you have to sigh at the hard work and wisdom of the working people. This is a scenic spot that is not a scenery, but it kills countless blockbusters in seconds. There are four main attractions in Yuanyang Rice Terraces: Duoyishu to watch the sunrise, Laohuzui to watch the sunset, and Jingkou to watch the fairyland in the clouds. Bada to watch the sunset and the sea of clouds.
Suitable dates: from December to April of the following year after the water is released. The best date is around the Chinese New Year, with clear skies and white clouds.
Remember to allocate your time well. You can't watch the sunset at Duoyishu or the sunrise at Laohuzui. The distance between the scenic spots is very far, more than ten kilometers, so it is very important to arrange accommodation before going, otherwise you have to get up early to rush to the scenic spots.
The Yuanyang Rice Terraces are very large and are a paradise for many photography enthusiasts!
The beauty of Yuanyang Rice Terraces is really hard to describe in words: the magnificence of Bada Rice Terraces, the beauty of Duoyishu Rice Terraces, the diversity of Laohuzui Rice Terraces, the Aichunlan Rice Terraces... No wonder some people say: No matter how gorgeous the words are, they are pale and powerless to describe the land of Yuanyang.
The ticket price during the Spring Festival is only 80! It's really worth it! But the management is not very good, there are too many private cars and it is very congested.
You must come to Yuanyang to see the terraced fields. The terraced fields here are like a landscape painting presented in front of you, which is very spectacular.
景色不錯,到時交通不方便,兜兜轉轉才能到達,過程比較辛苦!
Most of the photos of Yuanyang Terraces were taken at sunrise from the Duoyishu viewing platform. Going up Duoyishu is the Tiger Mouth viewing platform. The 50-kilometer mountain road from Yuanyang at the foot of the mountain to Duoyishu is not easy to walk. There are many bends and the road surface is seriously damaged by water. There are gravel roads, muddy roads, and shell pits. It is difficult for off-road vehicles to walk. There is a section where the road surface collapsed and the off-road vehicles can only slip by. Before going, check the weather forecast software to find a good sunrise time before entering the scenic area, otherwise you will freeze to death. Of course, you can grab a shooting position when the door opens at 6 o'clock. Just park the car on the roadside at the entrance of the scenic area. No one cares and no money is required. At the door at more than 6 o'clock, many local ethnic minority women and children began to pester tourists to buy eggs, but there was no touch porcelain. The little guy couldn't sell eggs and actually asked me for candy. I gave one to take some, and the other jumped directly on the car to find food. It seems that he was also very hungry. It's really not easy. Yuanyang Terraces are winter paddy fields. Water is released in winter, and the sunlight is reflected. It changes in a thousand ways. Mobile phones can also take beautiful photos. The viewing platform ticket includes the tickets for Duoyishu, Laohuzui and the other two viewing platforms. It is sold in a bundle, and the price is the same if you go to one. It is not easy to walk down the mountain to Fengji in Yuanyang County.
The only word to describe the Hani people's artworks over the past two thousand years is shocking.
It's ok. Those who like taking photos, have hobbies or are professional photographers can go there. One day is enough. Also, it's very cold, really cold.
I just arrived today, it was around 7 o'clock. I missed the sunset, but it was still beautiful.
Last night, I drove for 10 hours from Bamei to Tiger Mouth of Yuanyang Rice Terraces. All I saw along the way were the wonders of nature, and the Hani rice terraces were refreshing. When I thought about the fact that these water terraces that were densely packed along the mountains were all artificially cultivated, I couldn't help but marvel at the diligence and wisdom of the working people.
We arrived just before sunset. There were huge crowds of people and traffic jams. We walked for several kilometers to get to the entrance of the scenic spot. I think that as a scenic spot, Yuanyang Rice Terraces is not well planned. The roads are narrow, and there are so many private cars, and the ratio of tourist buses entering and leaving the road is seriously unbalanced. In addition, some private cars drove against the traffic and stopped randomly on the roadside to take pictures, causing traffic congestion. The 100 yuan entrance fee is still too expensive.
There is often fog in the morning, and whether you can see the terraces depends on luck. I went there on the last day of the Spring Festival holiday. The flow of tourists was much less than in the previous few days. Although there was a traffic jam, it was only a few sections of the road. I rushed to the Bada Terraces at 8 o'clock in the morning. The fog was too heavy to see anything. I arrived at Duoyishu at 10 o'clock. It was a little foggy but the effect was okay. I passed the Pugao village next to it and went down to the terraces. It was very live, but the paths and canals were full of garbage, and the perception was not very good. The driver recommended the blue terraces in Ai Village. The little girl in the village enthusiastically led us through the village. After walking a long way, we saw a large area of "cliff terraces" named by them. The blue color was very beautiful, more original and less commercialized than other terraces. At 4:30 in the afternoon, I arrived at the Tiger Mouth Terraces and waited for two hours for sunset, but it did not have the effect described on the Internet. Most of the people who took pictures returned disappointed.
1. About buying tickets. When I entered the scenic area, I said I was going to another terraced field, and the security guard said I needed to buy a ticket. I went into the ticket office and asked the consultant and ticket seller, and they all said that the terraced fields do not require tickets, but if you want to pass by here, you must buy a ticket. In fact, I bought the ticket and checked it on the scenic spot.
2. About traffic: On such a narrow road, there are always cars parked on the roadside. I also admire the cars with Guangdong A license plate. Everyone was patiently waiting in line to pass, but they bravely overtook and blocked the road. I don't easily make a map cannon, but there are many embarrassing things that Guangdong travelers have experienced.
3. Spring Festival travel advice: drive a motorcycle up, otherwise you will be exhausted on the road, and you can't drive more than ten kilometers in 2 hours. And don't buy a ticket:)
Personally, I think there is no need to buy tickets
The YunG license plate went straight in. There were many viewing platforms. You can see the terraced fields on the way. The 70 yuan ticket was only checked once. We didn't see any bonfire party or long street banquet. The staff's attitude was average. And then you have to pay a sanitation fee to enter the village. I felt like I was being ripped off.
The roads are well built and the food and accommodation are quite affordable. But the attractions are too scattered and it takes a long time to drive. The bay road is large. The terraced fields are beautiful and very suitable for couples.
