South Lake, located at the southern end of Hongcun, was built in 1607 during the reign of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty. It is shaped like a large bow, with a dike divided into two levels. The upper level, 4 meters wide, was originally paved with stone slabs, but later became the Jisi Highway. The lower level was lined with willows and poplars. The lake has undergone three major renovations throughout its history. In 1986, the middle dike was rebuilt, and a "painted bridge" was constructed, allowing for boating from east to west, a truly enjoyable experience.

Known as "a village in a Chinese painting," Hongcun is a unique ox-shaped ancient village within the Peach Blossom Spring of ancient Yi.
