Surrounded by terraced fields, the village boasts millennia-old trees, over a dozen Ming and Qing dynasty quadrangles, over a dozen century-old Western-style houses, and a thousand-meter-long historic street. It serves as a museum of Republican-era Western-style houses and a dream home for modern urbanites, earning it the nickname "the last pristine ancient village."
Shantou Zheng Village, nestled between mountains and water, boasts a sprawling landscape and boasted a population of over 2,000 at its peak. Historically, it long served as the center of Nanshan, reaching its peak in modern times, earning the nickname "Little Shanghai." Eighty or ninety years ago, dozens of Western-style houses were built in the village, featuring over twenty concrete balconies, some of the earliest examples of rooftop balconies, and they still stand today, a century later. The village still boasts over ten buildings, including the four-story residence of Zheng Renshan, the richest man in Nanshan during the Republic of China (formerly the district office), the former district post office, the former district police station, and Tingquan Tower. These houses are ingeniously designed, exquisitely constructed, and constructed with exquisite materials. These numerous buildings serve as a living museum of Western-style houses from the Republican era. For example, Renshan's former residence was equipped with running water, clear glass windows, and security features such as a lookout tower and machine gun holes during the Republican era. After liberation, his family's house served as the Nanshan District Office. The original owner of the post office was a court president during the Republic of China period. His house was a three-courtyard combination of Chinese and Western styles. It was exquisitely designed and incorporated many Suzhou garden and Western elements, giving it a unique style.
