The Shahu Tourist Area is located in Xidatan, Pingluo County, northwest of Yinchuan City. To its south is a 30,000-acre desert. The lake and the 10,000-acre lake seem to be a perfect match, nestling together and complementing each other. The rippling blue water and the undulating golden waves of the sea of sand are a sight to behold, making people linger.
Pingluo County has a continental climate with distinct seasons. Spring is dry and windy, with rapid temperature rises; summer is hot with concentrated rainfall; autumn is short and the temperature drops rapidly; and winter is dry and cold, with little rain or snow. The climate is characterized by abundant sunshine, large temperature fluctuations, and strong evaporation.
Shahu Lake boasts 10,000 mu (approximately 10,000 acres) of water, 5,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of sand dunes, 2,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of reeds, and 1,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of lotus ponds. It is rich in fish and birds, home to over a dozen rare species, including white cranes, black cranes, and swans. From the bird-watching tower, you can watch flocks of birds at play. Countless nests nest among the reeds and at the base of the reed bushes by the water's edge. Every spring, the scattered display of colorful eggs is a truly spectacular sight.
There are recreational facilities around the west side of the lake, such as sand sliding, camel riding, horse riding, swimming, fishing, gliding, beach volleyball, football, etc., as well as tourist airplane aerial sightseeing programs.
