Introducing Zhushan Academy

Zhushan Academy, located in Xiong Village, She County, was built by Cao Hanping during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. It covers an area of ​​1,130 square meters. Outside the gate is an open field, bordered by Peach Blossom Dam, with the Jianjiang River just below. The main hall opens onto a front porch, separated by a courtyard and a three-bay back hall. A side door leads to the inner courtyard from the right porch.

This hall housed classrooms, the teacher's study, lodging, and activity rooms. In the center, there was a small courtyard and flower garden. At the end of the corridor, there was a garden called " Qingkuangxuan , " a small classical garden. At the time, the Cao family had a covenant: " A son who passed the imperial examination could plant a cassia tree in the courtyard ." Hence, it was also called " Osmanthus Hall . "

Existing sites include a screen inscribed with " Qingkuang Fu " by the Qianlong-era poet Cao Xueshi , a small seal script plaque inscribed with " The Proceedings of Qingkuang" by calligrapher Zheng Lai , and a stone carving of Yan's " Shanzhongtian " (Sky in the Mountains) . In the northeast corner of the garden lies Wenchang Pavilion, built on a high platform. Its octagonal plan is commonly known as the " Octagonal Pavilion . " Its towering roof, a gourd-shaped tin roof, gleams with a silver sheen. Eight ridges rise at the ends, and golden sparrow bells hang from the corners. A golden plaque with the characters " Guan Ri Ling Yun " hangs beneath the eaves of the south-facing building . The interior of the pavilion is richly painted with orchids and beams.

Taohuaba, Osmanthus Hall, Octagonal Pavilion and Zhushan Academy are integrated into one, standing on the bank of Xin'an River. The scenery is really attractive. When the osmanthus flowers are in full bloom, you can climb up the pavilion and look into the distance.
