Among the numerous ancient villages in the Huizhou mountainous region of southern Anhui, Hantou Village in Jixi is arguably the most distinctive. Surrounded by mountains and water, the village boasts three prominent screens, five scattered mounds, and six surrounding mountains, creating a towering presence that blends beauty and culture.
Located over 1,000 meters above sea level, Hantou Village is surrounded by mountains and rivers. Villagers built their homes along the banks of streams, leaning against the hillsides and taking advantage of the terrain. Stone steps abound, so many that even in some houses, one must climb from the door to the bed. This is why the village is commonly known as " Hantou . " The eight-character folk song, " Hantou Han, three steps to the bed , " vividly captures the village's dramatic topography.
Every year in mid-to-late March, the spectacular terraced rapeseed flowers transform Jiapeng into a unique " sea of flowers " . The golden terraces are filled with the fragrance of rapeseed flowers. It has been selected as one of the " Photography Creation Bases " by the Anhui Photographers Association.
There are five piers scattered around the village: Wenbi pier, Shizi pier, Taling pier, Baguating pier, and Dongshanying pier. There are three piers standing side by side: Shoushan screen, Yanghe screen, and Pingdingshan screen.
The village is surrounded by six mountains: Fanzengjian ( 1349 meters above sea level ) , Huangmaojian ( 1278 meters above sea level ) , Menqianyan, Shanyunjian, Taipaojian and Modaoshijian.
