Introducing Baofengyan Scenic Area

Baofengyan Scenic Area is located in Baofeng Village, Taohuatan Town, southwest of Jing County. The scenic area is characterized by beautiful mountains and clear waters, lush forests, strange peaks and rocks, ponds and caves, bizarre stalactites, ancient trees, springs and waterfalls, green forests and flowers, presenting a fresh and elegant scenery.

Baofengyan boasts not only beautiful natural scenery but also a rich cultural heritage. Lingyan Temple was built here during the Sui Dynasty . During the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty, Kim Gyo-gak, a member of the royal family of Silla (Korea), visited the area and planned to build a temple there to pursue his Buddhist practice. He later cultivated himself at nearby Jiuhua Mountain and became a renowned monk.

With the influence of Buddhism, Taoists built temples on the mountain's backside. During the Yuan Dynasty , the " Youyin Temple " was built. As Baofeng's fame grew, scholars throughout history came to give lectures. Wen Tianxiang, a renowned official of the Southern Song Dynasty, established the Baofeng Zhenshan Academy, specifically for this purpose.

In Wen Tianxiang's poem "Farewell to My Brothers Wen and Mengyuan, Jinshi Scholars, " the lines "Zhenshan's Opening of Schools, Danzao's Remembrance of Immortal Traces " refer to the Zhenshan Academy on Baofeng Rock. Due to the Taiping Rebellion and civil war, the temples, academies, and other buildings on Baofeng Rock were reduced to ruins, bricks, and broken walls after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
