In 1943, when the districts were abolished and the Lianbao system was transformed into a township, it belonged to Gaoyang Township and Qujiang Township. After liberation, it was part of the Fifth District. In July 1958, it was renamed the Shuyang People's Commune, and in 1984, it was renamed the Shuyang Township People's Government.
Shuyang Town is located in the southwest of Nanjing County. It is the home of the world cultural heritage - Fujian Tulou. It is adjacent to Chuanchang Town in the east, borders Guzhu Township of Yongding County in the west, borders Luxi Town of Pinghe County in the south, and is connected to Meilin Town and Kuiyang Town of our county in the north. It is a tourist town at the intersection of Nanjing, Pinghe and Yongding counties.
It has a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average altitude of more than 400 meters and a maximum altitude of 1,399 meters. It has a mild climate and abundant rainfall. It is a typical subtropical climate and suitable for travel in all seasons.
The town is known as one of China's 100 famous towns, the "Hometown of Tulou." Its residential buildings are mainly square and round, with unique shapes that embody the essence of Tulou architecture, making them a unique gem of residential architecture. The town's Tulou are considered to have "four mosts": the most "unique" in shape is the Tianluokeng "four-round and one-square" Tulou cluster, which experts describe as "a flying saucer falling from the sky and a mushroom emerging from the ground"; the tallest Tulou, "Yuchang Tower."
