Songshan Geological Museum is an important part of Songshan World Geopark. It is located at the southern foot of Songshan Mountain and at the foot of Taishi Mountain. It faces south and is surrounded by elegant environment and green trees. It is a palace full of dazzling treasures.
Concentrating the Songshan region within an area of less than 20 square kilometers, the museum preserves tectonic remains from periods 2.5 billion, 1.87 billion, and 543 million years ago. Within Songshan's less than 400 square kilometers, a unique and complete sequence of metamorphic and sedimentary rock stratigraphic sequences spanning the Archean, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic eras is revealed. Geologists have hailed it as a natural geological museum showcasing "five generations under one roof." The Songshan Geological Museum is divided into a front courtyard, exhibition hall, and back courtyard. The front courtyard comprises a garden, a plaza, a light fountain, and a parking lot. The main museum building, located in the center, houses three exhibition halls. Two are currently open to the public: the Earth Science Hall and the Songshan Geopark Hall. A third hall is currently under planning and design.
