The Songyang Scenic Area, a key component of the Songshan Mountain Scenic Area, lies 2 kilometers north of Dengfeng City, covering a total area of 43.4 square kilometers. Taishi Mountain in the scenic area is the main feature of the Central Peak, Junji Peak, which rises 1,492 meters above sea level. From Junji Peak, one can gaze out over the surrounding scenery, with Shaoshi Mountain standing to the west, Jishan Mountain towering to the south, the rushing Yingshui River in front, and the Yellow River stretching like a belt to the north.
Leaning against the rocks and looking down, one feels a sense of "overlooking all the other mountains." Mount Song is a hub of 5,000 years of Chinese culture, with relics of ancient cultures such as the Peiligang, Yangshao, and Longshan cultures widely distributed throughout the mountain. Songyang Academy is one of the four great academies dedicated to the dissemination of Confucian rituals.
Songyang Academy, along with Yingtian Academy, Yuelu Academy, and Bailudong Academy, is considered one of the four great academies of ancient China. It is one of the oldest and most influential academies in my country. Originally founded in the Northern Wei Dynasty, Songyang Academy was the home of renowned scholars such as Sima Guang, Fan Zhongyan, Cheng Yi, and Cheng Hao. The academy's central axis is divided into five courtyards, and its meticulous layout reflects the Confucian ideal of "the interplay of ritual and music." From the overall architectural layout to each individual building, the complex adheres to the traditional order of ritual and etiquette.
With a temperate monsoon climate, the Songyang Scenic Area is centered around the Songyang Academy, encompassing famous attractions around the academy, such as Huishan Temple, Laomu Cave, Songyue Temple Pagoda, Fawang Temple, and Junji Peak. It is suitable for all seasons.
