Qingdao University is a key comprehensive university under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, jointly established by Shandong Province and Qingdao City. As of April 2019, the school has three campuses: Fushan Campus, Jinjialing Campus, and Songshan Campus. It also jointly builds the Qingdao University Jiaozhou Campus with the Jiaozhou Municipal People's Government.
The university's earliest roots were the Qingdao Special Higher School, founded in 1909, which later became the Qingdao Medical College. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, National Shandong University merged with the Qingdao Medical College and established a medical school, which later became the Qingdao Medical College. In 1993, the former Qingdao University merged with the Qingdao Medical College, Shandong Textile Institute, and Qingdao Normal College to form the new Qingdao University.
Qingdao is located in the northern temperate monsoon region and has a temperate monsoon climate with humid air, abundant rainfall, moderate temperature and distinct four seasons.
