Qingdao Catholic Church, originally named St. Michael's Church, is the first Catholic church in Qingdao, the largest Romanesque building in the area, and the only consecrated church in China. " Saint Michael " is a biblical archangel, and the church was named by Bishop . Locals customarily call it " Catholic Church . "

Designed by German architect Birkhall based on Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles, the church was originally planned to be 100 meters tall. However, when World War II broke out and Hitler strictly prohibited the outflow of funds from Germany, the plans for the church had to be revised and it was built to its current size.

The church's decoration follows the Italian Renaissance style. The spacious and bright hall, 18 meters high, features seven large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. At the rear, there's an altar, complemented by icon frescoes on the dome. It can accommodate a thousand worshippers and is the largest Gothic building in Qingdao.
