The Overlord Shrine, also known as Xiangting, Xiangwang Pavilion, Xiangwang Shrine, Yinghui Temple, Xiangyu Temple, and the Western Chu Overlord Shrine, now uses its former name. It is located on Fenghuang Mountain, 1 km southeast of Wujiang Town, He County. In 202 BC, Xiang Yu committed suicide here after his defeat, and later generations built a shrine to commemorate him. The original structure consisted of 99 and a half rooms. Legend has it that emperors were allowed to build 100-room shrines, but Xiang Yu, who failed to achieve his imperial power, was limited to half a room. A couplet in front of the shrine reads: "Sima Qian was a Han minister, and his "Annals" (Basic Annals) proves his inaccuracy; Du Shixiong was a true hero, and his lamentations at the shrine resonate to this day." Meng Jiao, Du Mu, Su Shunqin, Wang Anshi, and Lu You all contributed poems to the shrine.
Built to commemorate the suicide of Xiang Yu, the Overlord King of Western Chu, by slashing his own throat into the Wujiang River, the Overlord Shrine boasts a long history. Located in Wujiang Town, He County, across the river from Ma'anshan, He County, part of Chaohu City in Anhui Province, formerly known as Hezhou, also boasts a rich history. "Mountains are not famous for their height, but for the immortals who inhabit them; waters are not magical for their depth, but for the dragons who dwell within them. This humble dwelling, though my virtue is revered," is a well-known line from the poem "Ode to the Humble Dwelling." The humble dwelling described by Liu Yuxi, where "moss marks the steps, green grass fills the curtains, great scholars converse and laugh, and commoners come and go," is the small, simple courtyard where he lived while serving as an official in Hezhou. Today, it has become a popular tourist attraction.
With a subtropical monsoon climate, the Overlord Temple is built 1.5 kilometers south of Wujiang Town and about 1.5 kilometers away from the Yangtze River. It is suitable for travel in all seasons.
There is a giant boxwood statue of Overlord in the temple. The Overlord is seen leaning forward with his eyes wide open, holding a sword in one hand and stepping forward with one foot, looking as majestic as before.
It is recommended to play for about 2 hours.
