Introducing Songpinggou

Songpinggou Township is located in the northwest of Maoxian County. The main attractions of Songpinggou Scenic Area are earthquake sites, lakes, forests, mountains and folk customs that attract tourists.

The Songpinggou Scenic Area is comprised of three gullies and six lakes. The three gullies are Songpinggou (main gully), Yuerzhaigou (branch gully), and Shuimogou (branch gully), which form a Y-shaped pattern. The six lakes are Diexi Lake, Baila Lake, Wucai Pool, Baishi Lake, Mohai Lake, and Changhai Lake. Furthermore, the scenic area's landscape can be described in five words: "Majestic (Fugui Mountain and Shizi Mountain), Beautiful (Diexi Upper and Lower Lakes and Wucai Pool), Unique (the unique and picturesque earthquake relics), Strange (the pristine forests and unique trees), and Secluded (Yuerzhai and Changhai primeval forests).

Changhai

Changhai Lake is the highest lake in Songpinggou. Arriving at its shores, you'll experience the feeling of "infinite scenery on a dangerous peak." Formed by an earthquake, the lake is named Changhai for its length. Changhai Lake is a mysterious place. Legend has it that throwing rocks or making loud noises into the water can trigger hail and heavy rain. Therefore, be sure to observe it in silence; speaking loudly might disturb the heavens. The calm and serene surface of the water resembles a sleeping beauty.

Ink sea

The Mohai Lake is the most unique of all, its waters as deep as blue ink, hence the name. Formed when rock walls collapsed and water accumulated, and landslides blocked the flow, the water settled on the dark green rocks, creating a bottomless depth. The surrounding peaks, leafy trees, verdant pines, and a variety of flowers and plants are reflected in it. The interaction between the water inside and outside the lake turns the water a deep blue, like a poured pool of ink.

Pearl Beach Waterfall

Pearl Waterfall is a stream of water flowing across the rock slabs. During the Diexi earthquake, the previously gentle slopes slid downward, revealing the rocks like a stripped-off body. Water flowed over them, splashing and splattering like shimmering pearls. While its small size contrasts with the grandeur of other waterfalls, Pearl Waterfall offers a sense of refinement. The mountains are high and the water is long, while the snow-white water drops are pure. Sitting on the rocks and listening to the sound is a refreshing experience.
