Introducing Gaozhuang

Gaozhuang, also known as Xixi Villa and more commonly known as Xizhuang, is located within Hangzhou's Xixi Wetland National Park. It was the Xixi estate of Gao Shiqi, a renowned Qing Dynasty writer and calligrapher. Emperor Kangxi visited the estate during his southern tour and bestowed upon it the Chinese characters "竹窗" (bamboo window ) and a poem.

Today's Gaozhuang mainly includes Chenlan Pavilion, Gaozhai, Bamboo Window, Jiaoyuan Poetry Society, Tongyin Hall, Nianhua Book House, Linliu Thatched Cottage, Laifengxuan, Yexiaxuan, etc., which reproduce the historical scene of Emperor Kangxi's visit to Gaozhuang.

Half of Gaozhuang is a lotus pond, and the pavilions, corridors, and halls in the back garden are all built around the water. The white walls and black tiles, the raised eaves, and the seemingly casual yet ingenious design here reveal the elegance and refinement of Jiangnan gardens everywhere.
