Wansong Academy, located on Wansong Ridge in Fenghuang Mountain on the southern edge of West Lake, is home to " Phoenix Ridge Pine Waves, " one of the Eighteen Scenic Spots of Qiantang during the Qing Dynasty. It was the largest, longest-lasting, and most influential gathering place for scholars in Hangzhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Great scholars such as Wang Yangming of the Ming Dynasty and Qi Zhaonan of the Qing Dynasty lectured here, and Yuan Mei, the " Suiyuan Poet ," also studied there.

Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty inscribed the plaque " Zheshui Fuwen " for the academy , and the name was changed to Fuwen Academy. The ruins still retain a memorial archway with the characters " Teacher of All Ages " and a stone tablet with a faint image of " The Great Sage Confucius " .
